I've found where the save games are located on my computer. I was wondering how I might be able to edit them? I open up the zipped .xml file but am unable to edit it. Do I need a special program to do this or am I missing something (i.e. do it with word notepad, etc.) I've tried in notepad without success.

First, be sure you right click the save game file and unzip it. You'll get an xml file and a PNG. Notepad++ is free app I always use for xml. You should be able to edit save game and keep playing. Or convert savegame to new scenario. Here are instructions from dev for the latter:

Savegames kann indeed be used if you:

- place them at C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Germany at War\Scenarios
- change the sav into scn
- remove the signature and autosave tag in the header
- remove all <messages> at the end
