I have some probs with off board arty being out of contact over 5-6 turns. what´s the secret behind this??? I´m playing 2 PBM games as US where these things arise....

Frank, think of the technology of the period. No cell phones or IC's of any types. The US had the best radios of the period and they were the size of 2 shoe boxes end to end. http://www.qsl.net/ab4oj/1ststeps/1ststeps.html

The Above is a URL to a site on british kit. By a german Ham.

The Ranges were short( 1 mile under good circumstances, or 30+ hexes). They were fragile and not very reliable and very heavy(Tubes and lead batteries). Germans used Land lines back to Battalion where the request went on by radio, or land line if the Battalion arty was servicing the target. The US and the Brits would put more powerful radios in small vehicles and use them as AOP's(Artillery Observation Posts), or FO's( Forward observers) IIRC the Germans didn't net below the Regimental level, although I could be wrong on that, having seen opinions both ways. That means if a german Battalion commander wanted to talk to the battalion next to him, he had to send a runner. So the Contact rate is a lot better in WaW then was historically accurate. If it is still a problem with you ( rookies learn early that arty can make up for lack of tactical skill, a lesson that the Americans taught the germans many times in France and the Low countries), there is a switch you can set that will make arty always available. This will lead to other problems, a chacteristic it shares with all solutions.

hello T

yes you are right. but i wonder if there are any national characteristics build in this rule???

i think US should have the highest rate perhaps foolowed by britain, with germany and russia in the midfield and perhaps italy and japan with the greatest change of "not available"

i recently read a text about arty C+C (i think on wargamer or. mil. gamer) that was highly interesting. i just forgot it while in the game because i got high casualities in this game from nebelwerfers, hummels and 120mm mortars while my i only have some of those - very useful - 105mm available and the 81 and 60mm but they are more for supression. the my only heavy was now 8 turns out of contact...

the actual turn i can use them the 2nd time in game :(

but this last turn was quite okay as i destroyed 2 panthers of him and a nashorn.
