I've passed on this title because of negative comments about the AI. The latest patch mentions that there are meaningful inprovements to the AI. I've been happy with the AI in DCCB. I'd love some opinions about this AI after the new improvements. I understand that it'll probably take some time for the players to form an opinion, but I'd love to hear what people think when ready. I know that the best game is vs. another player, but I've always played vs. the AI.
Thanks for any opinions.

As a gamer I'm sure you are aware no AI is anywhere near perfect and that in scripted historical battles, like DCCB, it is easier to create a more challenging AI opponent. ATG's immense strength and value is in its replayability and also its ability to be used as a wargame construction kit by gamers so inclined to put in the time and effort.
ATG 2.15i has been in beta long enough that some gamers probably can offer you their opinion about the AI. I think it pretty good. I normally play against 3 AI and lately have been using Lancer's Enhanced Mod Suite which increases the challenge even more. If you like Vic's other games I don't believe you can go wrong with this one. I hesitate to think of all the hours I've played this game, both against the AI and human players.

It is a great game and the Ai is challenging for the most part. Without a mod you will be disappointed with the Naval AI. And unless recently fixed the AI used to clomp 30 plus planes in one unit. But other then that it will encircle you, it will strike at weak points and it will appear where you just knew he couldn't get too.

I'm not a fan of the AI, I've always felt it was the weakest part of the game. It's not been improved in any meaningful way IMO. I occasionally play against it, lately with the Enhanced Mod, it's still not much good.
The AI needs a top down overhaul and has since AT-WWII even before ATG.

I don't find the AI of ATG any worse than anything else out there, & it's probably better than about 50% of the games I've played. For me, it's high marks in moddability, random map, and overall playability outweigh it's rather average AI.
Sure, the AI could be better, but it's not horrible - ATG is a VERY playable game overall.

+1. The AI will most likely kick your @ss when you're a new player. Even for a seasoned player like myself it can be a hard and long slog sometimes as the AI has Oil and Raw advantages. The AI can't beat me anymore but I sure have to be very careful at times. I usually play with a minimum of forces so one mistake.. and I'm a goner. Games such as WitE and the DC series have a limited map with set conditions so the AI is much easier to control, with random maps this is much much tougher so all in all I think the AI is doing a reasonable job.

I would say the AI is akin to Soviet Russia - lots of resources and a willingness to throw them at you...
It's not very sophisticated but it is challenging (especially against multiple allied AI opponents as I am discovering at the moment), and it can throw the odd curve ball. I've got a game to finish up first but am looking forward to giving the new AI a go.
