Hi Michaelm,

When enemy troops are in the same hex and you change the FO to another target the percentage goes down to zero instead of 33%. When no enemy troops are present and you change FO to another target the percentage goes down to 33%.

Is this WAD?

What's FO?

I believe he's talking about prep points for LCUs, and that FO stands for Future Objective. May be wrong, though.

Ok, that would make sense as depending on the experience of unit the prep time can be 1/3 of original instead of 0.

The presence of enemy units does not impact the prep time on changing FO. Keeping some prep points is based on unit experience (and national exp level) with some luck.
Rough guide:
1. If Current unit prep >30 and unit exp >national army exp and die roll => prep divided by 3
2. Else If Current unit prep >40 and unit exp >3/4 of national army exp and die roll => prep divided by 4
3. Else 0

NB
1. and 2. only apply to prepping for enemy bases.

Hi Michaelm,

Play with the troops at Rangoon, Pegu, & Bataan. Set the troops @ Rangoon & Pegu with FO = the base they are at. Set the troops @ Bataan to Palembang. I was just tripping over the results...

Preparing for your own base will always reset to '0'. The other reduction only applies with prepping for enemy bases.

Thanks - I didn't realize that home defense didn't get the option of the 1/3rd or 1/4th start of preparation.

I'm curious as to why that is though. It seems to me that it would be easier to prepare a defense in your home base then prepare an offense against and enemy-held base.

In any event - it's WAD and I'm good with that. Thanks for the explanation and taking the time to review this issue with me.

It use to be that it always got '0' when changed. I added the partial reduction so that prep'ing for an invasion/attack didn't always mean the training for the objective was always wasted.

Which is a good change, IMO. Making it be that way for an own-base is probably a lot less significant in game terms, but I suppose that it would be consistent with the logic of it to cover own-bases that way as well.

I had a few units that I wanted to start prepping for defense as my opponent has a stack sitting at one of my bases that seems to be growing... <wry grin> I was re-re-re-reading the manual and noticed that FO gives both offensive and defensive bonuses (I had thought forts were the only defensive bonus).

I'm certainly not complaining about how you've modified the FO setting to 1/3 or 1/4th depending on your logic statements (I, like witpqs, think it's a great change). If you don't see a negative impact to the game, I'd like to suggest using the same formula for defense that you are using for the offensive preparations.

And, as always, I'd like to thank you for the continued support and the extra time you give to this game. I truely appreciate it.
