Traitors?

I'm playing sc 17 (started in v 1.40) as US against the AI.
Spotted a Jap TF at Buka so I sent a sub to investigate. It tried to attack on the surface and was attacked by the escorts, which turned out to be DMS Long!!!!
Even managed to sink my sub. After saving I reloaded an earlier save to have a look at it from the Japanese side and yes, DMS Long is escorting 3 APs. I'm attaching a picture of the AAR and the Jap TF display.

Try defragging your Harddrive! I had a similar problem with surface ships appearing in sub task forces. I defragged my HD and no problem since.

Defragging?
That makes no sense at all. Glad your problem went away though.
Defragging?

Hmmm,
I must admit that I find it very hard to believe that a fragmented hard drive could cause corrupt saved game files. Well I guess if the game program actually handles the writing and reading directly to the HD on it's own (can you do that?) it could happen.
It hasn't been defragged for 135 days so I'll try it and check the Jap side after playing another turn.
As I sidenote I might mention that I managed to track down the traitor (in other words the AI sailed the TF with DMS Long across the Gulf of Huon) and sent out aircraft from PM to sink him.
The air force boys made a mess out of it as usual.
Instead of bombing their own side they did recognise Long as an Allied ship so even if the combat display showed aircraft targeting Long they never released any bombs. They both released and managed to hit a couple of Jap APs in the same TF.

Sink all the APs and the Jap CO will casher the Long sending it back to Japan in disgrace.

Wish I had...

pbear,

Wish I had but it's too late now. I've defragged the drive but haven't seen the Long yet. Thought I'll take a look on an old save after a few more turns so I don't get any up-to-date info that'll spoil the game.

Defragging doesn't help

Well,
DMS Long has turned up again escorting a convoy to Lae so defragging the drive makes no difference.
The good news is that I've finally managed to hit her although only lightly, sofar. The convoy's still at Lae so maybe I'll get the chance to see what will happen when I sink my own ship (it's still listed as Allied on the combat report screen).
