Corrupted save game

I realize this is asking a lot. But I have been around this forum a long time and thought maybe I could ask for a big favor. I recently had a notebook PC suffer a crippling accident. I managed to recover the HDD. The WITP save folder was pulled from the drive and my save file is intact. I was running the game under the current non beta patch. 1.06
Unfortunately when I try and load the game I get the 'save game cannot load' message.

Is there any possible way the file can be looked at and possible recovered? Probably a very small possibility but I figured I would ask. I have poured a lot of hours into the file and would hate to see it lost. It would probably make me shelf the game for a while.

Was anyone able to take a look at this?

I doubt anything can be done, but it would make me feel good if I knew for sure.

Thanks

I think michaelm looked at it and posted that was badly corrupted and could not be read. He suggested you try to find a prior save game. It would appear that his reply was eaten in the forum meltdown a few days ago.

Michael may have posted, but I know I responded saying that the save file looks too small and appears to be corrupted. I also suggested going back to an earlier save. I save to a new slot at the end of every turn and then move the old saves to an archive folder every 60 saves or so. I got in that habit during testing of the game.

Thanks for looking

Unfortunately that entire notebook is lost. I managed to salvage the HDD out of it but the data on it was spotty and damaged.
In the end I gave up on trying to recover it and formatted it. I put it in a cheap USB enclosure. I don't know if it will be a reliable drive or not since the case of the drive was actually damaged as well. But if I get any use out of it then it will be a useful 500 GB external drive.

That was a long way of saying that I don't have any prior saves :D

Thanks a lot for looking
