Can anyone tell me why there is a # next to this ship's name? I do not think it is because it is scheduled to withdraw.
SS with # next to name:

I believe that it indicates that the ship is scheduled to withdraw at some point in the future IIRC. Check the ship's information screen. But I could be mixing this up with something else. I don't have the game open at this time. Hal

That's the indication of the task force's current flagship. If there's just one ship in a TF - like in every self respecting sub patrol TF <g>, the ship always is the flagship. If you didn't select a flag officer for TF commander, the game selects the most appropriate commander of the available TF ships as 'commodore', which means the # - ship Captain will be the TF commander.
I don't have the game open currently myself, but I think the ships due for withdrawal at a later point in the game is marked by a *.

I checked the withdrawal schedule and could not find it. Here is the ships screen - I do not see anything indicating it is due to withdrawal. Weird.

On aircraft screens a pound sign indicates the unit is scheduled for withdraw.

I believe it indicates the flagship for a tasks force.
