I have been through this once before and following earlier threads resolved the issue on my other computer. I cannot for the life of me get full screen on my Acer. I have 1.7.11.23r and I have tried amending all the commands in "read me file"....they all seem to respond except screen size. I am also aware from earlier thread that the 2nd - is a "soft -".....after 2 hours of screwing around I found the so-called soft hyphen for the 1st command and still nothing. Any ideas??

a) what's the screen resolution?
b) specs of the CPU, e.g. dual-core?

Try these switches and adjust the screen resolution accordingly. I got it even running full-screen (alas slow) on a 5(!!!) year old netbook.

Intel core i3-2350, 15.5 HD LED LCD, Intel HD graphics 3000....It's not 1 yr old. I think there is something to the hyphens I am getting right. Was it the 1st hyphen that was soft or both?

I'd suggest that you manually type in the whole executable, and not copy and paste anything. Even when you know what to look for, the long vs short hyphen can be hard to spot.

Just listen to Quixote, command line in WhatsNew.pdf is incorrect.

I believe it may have something to do with font style for the "soft hyphen". With Acer you have to access off keybd symbols from a menu and paste them in. I'm old enough to think that pasties were only found in sleazy bars...in the olden days! The symbol menu also offers a pile of font styles. I'll try frittering away some more of my life on this solution and will report back.

For the makers of this piece of majesty....why the hell can't these annoyances have an easier fix? If it wasn't for the forum folks guys like me would have given up on this long ago!!

Such a symbol is not accessible off keyboard but only through help function then using cut and paste. Additionally, for the fix to take a full computer shutdown was required....didn't take with simple restart for some reason.

This doesn't sound like a good advertisement for buying an Acer machine.

No way. I have an Acer with no such problem. And I know what the so-called 'soft hyphen' issue is. It is not what you seem to think.

The command line requires that you use the hyphen character. In the PDF of the manual and in the PDF of the release notes the character is NOT a hyphen, so-called soft or otherwise. It is an En-Dash. En-Dashes are used in typography, but are not used in making command lines for AE shortcuts. You do NOT want to type an En-Dash as appears in the PDF of the manual or release notes because it will not work. Just type a hyphen. A hyphen is what works and what is required. There is no alternative. Quixote gave you the answer.

It is unfortunate that the PDF of the manual (and maybe the PDF of the release notes) get made with En-Dashes instead of hyphens, but they are done that way to look good, and probably done so automatically during a text file conversion or something. That is why people on the forum keep advising "do not cut and paste from the PDF, type the hyphen in manually" when people run into trouble and ask for help.

It sounds like this frustrated the hell out of you, but your PC is almost certainly fine and you do not need to worry about accessing any special symbols for the command line switches.
