April 61 Campaign and Recruitment Questiion

Hi there just started this campaign and I have formed a few new units. DO they fill automatically or do I need to produce replacements at the same time. Have not had any battles yet. I believe I have the auto replacements off.

Another question in the production screen it shows some with red numbers and exclamation points. What does that mean? I know the top number means # of hits needed to replace but why the red?

Thanks

Hi Rekm,

The red numbers tell you how many "hits" your units in the field have taken, or in another way, the depletion of your units in the field. Below that are replacements that you have (in blue) or have purchased this turn (in parentheses) -- assuming you didn't give this job to the AI (I recommend against). As long as you have replacements (in blue), the hits will be slowly filled. Always have replacements on hand. I think it's recommended to have 10% of the hits. A replacement isn't depleted necessarily when filling a hit (random chance, I believe), but the replacement numbers will lower. Oh, and sometimes game events give you some replacements, but keep an eye on these numbers.

When you buy a unit, think of it as is "in training" for a few turns (if you roll your mouse over the icon, in the info is the number of days until available). If attacked, it will automatically be out of training. I don't believe you need replacements for these.

Thanks for the answer. Wonder how they are taking hits in the field (red #'s) it was only the second turn in the Apr'61 campaign game.

The new armies supplied as the game progresses start depleted.

Ahh that makes sense Twotribes thanks. Not too much to do in the 1st couple of turns in the Apr'61 Campaign as the North.

No, the first few turns are slower. Repair the rail in Baltimore, I always redeploy a handful of generals from DC to where I'll eventually need them (Cairo, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, for instance), build telegraphs, start building my fleet for blockade. Things like that. Light artillery for forts and cavalry (you'll need them soon in the East!).

Playing as the south is difficult The AI Moves 2 sometimes 3 25K plus stacks that even when defeated continue on to their objective.

Yes, at least at the start of the game. Once you get a feel for how the AI behaves, you have a better chance, North or South. I understand the AI is being tweaked for a first update.
