Useful Threads for Beginners

Useful topics for beginners collected by Chuske.

It's an old thread, and it's written original for AGEODS's American Civil War (the predecessor of Civil War II).
But many of the suggestions are still valid. And it is always interesting to read.

Civil War II has quite learning curve for beginners.

It's still a help for those who are helpless! [;)]

25 links about playing the game... I'm even more intimidated.

I've played a ton of Matrix games, including Panzer Corps, Battle Academy, Unity of Command, and Scourge of War, among others...

I bought the original version of this game and just bought the new version and I haven't been able to get into either.

Any suggestions on baby steps? I think the whole command structure thing throws me completely for a loop. I've done the tutorials... I just can't get into it...

Hey Cheesehead, I'd recommend diving in and trying it out. Personally, I find that the command structure (I take in your mean assigning generals to brigades, divisions, corps, and armies) is one of the better aspects of this game, as it demonstrates how leaders can impact combat (just like in the actual ACW).

Try the New Mexico Sibley scenario. Small yet it is a campaign in a region so you can play around alot and get that feel for a good wargame, the one that keeps you up late. I am enjoying playing Confederates - hope the AGEOD world clicks for you with this gem. That is my experience.

A useful link but remember the tips are for the original AACW game and some things are different in CW2.
