Personally, I haven't played much with car/racing games [:(], except way back in the 90's, the good old DOS and Win 3 & 3.1 days.

Yeah autoduel is a good rpglike mad max road warrior game. Then around the 90's they came out with a game called Road War and Road War Europa which was another mad max road wars type game where you got shotguns and stuff and driveby shootings were fun. I liked the buses myself as they had pretty good power and lots of tires.

A bit complicated to learn and client tends to crash when shifting between client and internet browser, but it’s an awesome game. You can play for free too, so no risk in checking it out.

Twisted Metal.

That series made you feel how fun it could be to BE a car... an insane car that likes to race around and blow things up while AC/DC is cranked up to 11. It was the digital equivalent to the movie Maximum Overdrive.

What controls? we played it with a joystick not much in the way of controls except pushing your joystick in the direction you wanted to go. Even the menu lists were joystick controlled and they were very easy up and down click for choice. How could you dislike the controls?

I strongly prefer left-right for rotation forward-back for speed.

Battlecars - Similar to autoduel but just the fighting. Very good game for its day.

I play 30 minutes of TOCA Race Driver 2 every day as soon as I get out of bed ... its hooked up to a PC Gamer Bike and if I don't pedal then the car doesn't go. The bike can be configured to any keystroke so it should work on any game that has keystroke commands.

When I first bought the bike I lost 40 kg in 5 months just by playing computer games ... true!!! [:D]
