This is the first tutorial mission the first task is to scramble your f-14 Tomcats. I launch 2 groups of 6, and once the first group is airborn they go in to engaged defensive. 1 or 2 get taken out and I set the rest of the group to engage targets AUTO. They just fly around and never fire, they fly right at the hostiles and right past them, I can't get any airplane to fire using auto. Is this broken or am I doing something wrong? I have all their sensors engaged and weapons loadout shows they are ready for AAW. It work if I change to manual or create a mission though?

There is no plotted course and I have also checked to ignore plotted course.

Hard to see my group of 4 tomcats at the top (got cut off) of the screen but they at the very top coming down on 4 enemy. They are in the radar cone and set to auto attack, instead they fly right by the enemy and then do circles until they get shot down. What's going on?

I believe it is best to just create a patrol mission in a defined zoned area.

I usually define my own area by using ctrl + right mouse click, then select define area. I then create a mission, usually the patrol mission and the AAW. I allocate the planes and double check to ensure the right zone has been defined, there is a place on the mission screen that highlights zone areas. I select the ones I want and get rid of the others, then set active. Close screen and watch the fun.

Or look for baloogans vids. Is that your question or was it something completely different?

My understanding is that after hitting F1 you do select the target(s) by clicking or dragging a box, same as you do for manual attack, just that you do not assign the weapons yourself. Give that a try. After your tomcats are airborne press F1 and drag-select the first group of 4 bogies.

Bests,

Martin

^ this , selecting the targets resulted in immediate fire at them. Thanks!

I might be wrong, but I think if you are launching groups of planes then they might take a while to form up if the group size is bigger than the runway capabilities... when I did this scenario, limiting my plane groups to 2 or 3 seemed to mean they were more quickly able to get into action

(Might be wrong though)

Chris, this is true. You have a display in the group status window like "Forming up: 2/5". Silents problem however was applying F1 alone without defining the targets.
