Rethinking the world

Guys,
I'm not sure there is actually a requirement to have the entire world rendered for every scenario - -whilst im sure this adds realism, a 5 hour scenario hardly needs it.
Is there any move to reduce the visible map to just the local/region battlespace - Im sure this would free up resources no end.

This would be a great idea if it speeds up the interface.

The globe UI has nothing to do with the speed of the game. The gazillion calculations underneath to though.
We're looking at some speed improvements in the next update. Think you'll like what we have come up with.

Mike,
Yeah, I guess it pales into insignificance given the data churning with all of the platforms etc.
Can anymore be handed off to the GPUs? Mine are hardly being taxed.
My Q6600 is being worked - I can hear the fan spinning up when things get busy. However, i'm never seeing more than a 3rd load on any one of the 4 cores.
To me, there still feels like a bottleneck in the process - the spikes im seeing from 100s to the 1000s (with the 10sec delay) is pretty much a show stopper still.
Can you make any judgements on the difference between the user specs that are free from hassle and us others that have dramas. It seems to be difficult to assess what is at the root cause of the huge disparity in performance.
I'm just about still hanging in there (the release of the beta path was a sound move).
More than happy to act in a beta capacity - I've got some free time over the next few weeks and can actually see some light at the end of the tunnel - albeit distant.

We're working on testing a new build that addresses many of the performance issues. Pretty sure D is going to post another public one in a day or so. Give it a shot and let us know how it works out. We've also addressed crash bugs and a few big requests.
Once we're clear we'll post more on the beta team which we do hope to expand. I'll be in touch.
