Contact sunk or not ?

I'm trying tutorial 2 on sub. In the second mission, I have to sink a Chinese destroyer. I thought I sunk it but there is still one contact ahead. Can someone help me to decipher the log ?
I understand that another contact just showed up immediately after I got the first destroyer.
Am I correct ?
What exactly does "100% penetration" means ? total destruction of contact ?
Any other useful comment ?

I hear you on this...i would like to see a "contact sunk/destroyed" message. Or even better a greyed out "sunk ship/downed aircraft/destroyed facility symbol"

Maybe as an option. I believe in RL, you do not always know if a contact is destroyed until you can get BDA on it. If you want a "cheat" to immediately know the status, make sure that event trigger messages are enabled. They can sometimes (based on scenario design) tell you - I have those off.

but is it possible to even get BDA in the sim? the contact "disappears" from the map and thats all we know? I have seen contacts on fire and damaged and such, but if a contact is sunk maybe place a marker on the map. It would be great for AAR's also.

I just sunk my contact nb5, then I sunk contact nb6 and now, I am again chasing contact nb5 with an mk48.
I'm lost ...
Or contact nb5 really wasn't sunk ?

I actually that was part of the FOW? Is that on purpose or an accident?

What I have noticed most of the time, is the BDA (if possible given range and such I imagine) gives you a destroyed indication (and marker), and the contact can either immediately sink (which of course gives you the contact lost message) or the hulk will stay around for a time (marked as destroyed, and I have seen them last quite awhile sometimes).

I haven't seen this behavior yet

OK...I have seen it
many times (just finished first contact73, and 4 of the enemy ships exhibited that behavior). Reminder I agreed if it was an "option" to immediately discern the sunk status that would be fine. I myself like the possible ambiguity of having to confirm the status (is he dead? he isn't moving and hasn't fired at me for a few minutes - better be careful and find out).

100% penetration means the target's armor has been completely ineffective at deflecting/absorbing at least some of the weapon's explosive/kinetic force. The full force of the warhead is about to be applied to damaging the unit. (In the case of explosive warheads there is a significant chance of internal detonation, which amplifies the damage).

Thanks !
But after all, how can we know this penetration level ?
I mean, if we even can't be sure a contact was sunk, how could we know that its armor has been ineffective ? (talking about realism here ...)

These messages are just logging things that are going on "under the hood". For maximum realism (in terms of things you are aware of as the player) you can turn them off by going to Game Options -> Messages and unticking the "message log" option for the "Weapon Damage" message category.

nukkxx, one thing not mentioned about your log is the second contact was detected by convergence zone out in sector C.
