AI auto attack--option to exclude weapons?

One thing I find myself wishing for is the ability to (temporarily) exclude weapons from AI control. Would it be possible to turn off selected weapons (maybe in the unit's weapons view) to prevent the AI from making fruitless attacks?

yes...I have been wishing for this. I have actually been wondering if you can do it.

Don't know how hard it would be to code but naively it seems pretty simple to implement...but I could be wrong[:D]

I'm asking in particular because such an option would allow the CMANO AI be able to actually recreate the "historical" battle of Latakia. To get a reasonably historical outcome with the current version of CMANO, you should never use your ASMs against the Syrian torpedo boats (apparently, they're too small of a target for the missiles) and historically, the torpedo boats were sunk by Israeli gunfire. However, using auto attack in CMANO, the AI insists on methodically firing each and all of your precious Gabriel missiles at those little boats (with a near zero percent chance of scoring a single hit) So in a case like this in CMANO, it would be really useful if the player could intervene and specify when the AI can and can not use ASMs (for example).

On the bright side, I have now become really good at maneuvering my ships in a gun duel, keeping them just outside of the Syrian's guns' range while hitting them with my own [:)]

I made this suggestion early on (check box HOLD FIRE for Mounts which took those mounts out of consideration for AI use). What is in effect now is a complete unit HOLD FIRE option.

Another possible use is in AAW. I'd like for my guys to just do BVR and go home once they used up their AMRAAMs. A close in fight with AIM-9 is not suggested since they next wave of enemies are BVR capable. They will get killed while heading for these targets.

Controlling weapons and mounts would compliment the player's current ability to turn individual sensors on/off. Moreover, turning weapons and sensors on/off might improve the enemy AI and scenario design, provided there was a way to turn them on/off via scenario triggers.

Hey, that's a great idea!

Not wanting to behave like a jerk [;)]...but could a developer chime in as to whether or not this would even be possible (ie to selectively make specific mounts/weapons temporarialy off limits to the AI?)

I have yet to use the incuded selective sensor(s) feature, but would probalby use a selective weapons mounts feature in every scenario

+1

I asked for this in one of my posts.
