Just started pbem of "Siegfried Line 1944" beta by "sPzAbt653", which I'm sure will be quite decent... Playing against EDK, my regular and very capable TOAW opponent

The scenario can be found here

http://www.dizium.net/TOAW

Not a full AAR.. I'll just post some highlights... Wanna try an alternate Market Garden, less ambitious than the historical but with the aim of driving into Germany...
Airborne units are dropped east of the Meuse and have to hold a path for a drive east by British and US troops, hopefully pocketing a sizeable German force defending the Siegfried Line.. simultanious I'm going aggresively for the units defending the Schelde estuary so we can get the port of Antwerp operational

Oops, sorry I forgot about this thread.. yes I smashed my way to and across the Rhine... My opponent pulled back and I lost track of most of his units except a concentration in Munich... IMHO there need to be more German units

Yes, it is too easy. But as far as I know, I've got all the historic units in there. So there won't be any more German units. And with the Germans defending the Siegfried Line , they sacrifice the chance of setting a good defense at the Rhine. Against Elmer it is even easier.

I've been considering slashing Allied proficiencies. It doesn't seem right, but if it slows down the Allies I might have to do it.

Thanks for the review !

I'll ask my opponnent's opinion whe we finish this scenario. He completed a full withdrawal, blowing several bridges along the way and set up a strong defensive line just west along the Elbe.. Meanwhile fortress Munich is being besieged by the French - without artillery support, my bad

20 November 1944 .. The outer defensive perimeter around Berlin has been breached and we're heading towards the city

Nov. 20th ? It only took you a month to reach Berlin ?

Development-wise, I had moved on from this scenario to the larger 'D-Day to the Elbe' scenario. Rick, Larry and I spent a good deal of time getting the D-Day aspect ironed out, but we've run into the same problem - the Siegfried Line and Rhine River are too easy to get thru. Lately I've been working on the German PO version, tweaking objectives and anchoring the VG Divisions to the fortified hexes (because Elmer was moving them all over).

Two things that are different in the DDtE scenario, the RedLight/GreenLight rules, and Garrisoned Army Groups (only one is available for orders until after Antwerp is taken). Even with these two additions it is difficult to stop the Allies as they were stopped historically from September to December.

two months actually, this is turn 65... when I launched Market Garden across the Rhine my opponent started a phased withdrawal, and my pursuit failed to catch up with many of his units.. turns out he set up a dense defensive perimeter around greater Berlin

Oh right, two months. And the German player fell back to Berlin ? Well, I think ... umm ... maybe I shouldn't say anything, but ... Berlin isn't even an objective in this scenario. The Allied player only has to reach the stop line along the Elbe to win. [:(]

But really, I put this one together to get some testing in on the Siegfried/Rhine defenses. I was thinking if a human German player couldn't hold the Allies there for at least a little while, then the larger scenario might not be worth the effort. The Ruhr is the real objective, and I've put some thought to truncating the scenario (eliminating the boring pursuit from the Rhine to the Elbe). But for the larger DDtE scenario, Berlin (and Russians) are an option.

yeah, well we didn't actually go for the VP's , just wanted to have a shot at it... but there's not much the Germans can do... Allied readiness for some sectors may have to be reduced, or units frozen.. may need extra events or so... Maybe some day I delve into it
