I have an allied sub parked at Guam, I have a ASW force in harbor, but it wont doing any counter operations. I have sent mines, but is this normal for ASW to not react to multiple sub attacks while active?

I have noticed the same thing, but like most things in this game, GG loves dice rolls...

So, there are a large number of factors here Steve which affect that.

These factors include the D/L of the SS, the air search assets (exp, leader),the ASW TF (exp, leader stats) as well as whether the TF is set to retire (it shouldn't be).

From the manual: The chance of this TF contacting enemy subs in coastal hexes is higher when
compared to open water hexes. ASW TFs will get a better chance of
shooting first if a contact is made. ASW TFs are limited to 4 ships.

...
ASW TFs will react to detected enemy submarines.
...
If the sub is detected early, there is no attack by the sub, which dives and then suffers an ASW
attack.

...
Prior to 1944, Allied crews perform ASW functions during daylight at 114% of their crew rating,
and at night at 150% of their crew rating (except for British crews which get no bonus at night
as they generally already have extra high night experience). Prior to 1943, Japanese crews
perform their ASW functions at 67% of their crew rating, while in 1943 and thereafter they
perform at 80% of their crew rating.

Again another thread in the wrong sub forum.

The tech sub forum is essentially for:

(a) game code bugs (which none of your threads are)
(b) hardware conflicts (ditto)
(c) feedback to michaelm on the betas (ditto)

It is not to learn how to play the game, or how game mechanics operate. Those issues should be sent to either the main AE forum or the AE Waroom, or in the case of mods, the modders sub forum. There are sound reasons why you should do that, not least being that if you looked in the relevant areas you would find the answers to your newbie questions. It also would assist other newbies.

Is your ASW force just sitting in the harbor or is it patrolling the hex?

I have an ASW and a local minesweeping TF set in every major port to a one hex patrol pattern in the port hex.

This provides defense against both submarines and submarine laid minefields.

Don't leave your ASW TF anchored in the harbor, get it patrolling the hex.

p.s. Please do you best to disregard Alfred. His pompousness makes it impossible for him to be civil with newbies who don't know any better than to make the fau pax you did.

Alfred, sometimes its hard to know if something is mechanics or a bug. Also, unless you know the exact wording of the similar question its difficult to find an answer

Mr. Rodgers,

This game has been out now long enough that bugs are extremely rare and the learning curve such that you should ALWAYS assume it is operator error until told otherwise. Further, you miss Alfred's point: limited views outside of the Main forum. Your same post in Main will get 10x the hits, ergo 10x better the chance of an answer sooner.

Or ignore the advice and suffer the consequences.

The advice is sound.....the condescending and insulting manner in which it is delivered not.
