Ki-32 upgrade?

In the ver 3.1 notes, it states that the Ki-32 will upgrade to Ki-45s. I haven't seen this happen yet. It is 4/43, I have 140 Ki-45s in the pool, and I have 2-3 Ki-32 air groups, but they will not upgrade. What do I have to do?

I checked, and the upgrade path is still there. Sometimes I notice that planes will not auto-upgrade unless there is a significantly large reserve pool of aircraft. Some types upgrade if there are 100 in the pool, others if there are 200. This might be one of the cases where it requires 200+ planes in the pool to upgrade.

How many Ki-32 groups do you have? Did you change some Ki-51 groups to Ki-32? Sometimes if you have a lot of groups that can upgrade to a plane type the computer gets 'confused' and waits until you can upgrade all deployed groups before it asks you to upgrade these air groups. So, the fewer Ki-32 groups you have, you will probably get the upgrade earlier. If this is the reason, you could do a few things.

#1. Wait until the pool grows high enough

#2. Change some Ki-32 to Ki-51

#3. Disband some Ki-32 groups, when they come back in X many months so there will be fewer Ki-32 groups out there to get confused by the upgrade system

Still, this is a lot of conjecture, I really am not sure why the system does this.

Jeremey, I am sure that I have only 2 Ki-32 groups, I changed one or two to Ki-51s early to get some more surrivable a/c groups. Didn't really seem to work. I'll wait until I get more Ki'45s and see.

Check that those groups are either on day or night combat status, other missions prevent autoupgrade.

ok, i have 2 Ki-32 units, both on day combat, 340 Ki-45s in the pool, and still no upgrade!!!

also, there are some japanesse air units that start in Hainan and Keelung that you can not load on Avs or MCSs. You can do an air transfer but not load them on ships. They stay that way even if they are air transfered to another base. Probably has to do with the data slot they are in, exe thinks they are china/kwantong aircraft.

Please name these air units so it's possible to verify these problems !

What OOB file did you use ?
Campaign 41 or 42 or another one ?

well this is getting somewhat strange. It seems to be random. I am using OBC_a and OBC_c. I have tried 4-5 starts of each. Sometimes I can't load the two Ki-27 groups at Hainan, sometimes I can't load any of the air units at Keelung, sometimes I can't load air units at either base, and sometimes I can load air units at both bases. It seems to be only when you choose a PBEM game that the problem comes up.

I am playing one OBC_a and one OBC_c game and both of them would not let me load air units to ships at either base(lucky me). In the OBC_c game I used no historical first turn. In the OBC_a game I used a historical first turn.

I will have to try more tests to see what results I get.

The units affected are.

Jeremy, I have reduced my Ki-32 goups to 1( including China groups). I have 500+ Ki-45's in the pool. Still no upgrades!! Should I try disbanding the one I have left?

When I tested, Ki-32's upgraded just fine. Looking deeper, I noticed that not only must the group be on either day or night combat status, it must also be on at least size 4 airfield to upgrade. There's also something about computer control, but that might just be the query for upgrade.
