Inaccurate weapons modeling

Few issues that I observed so far:
If the AIM-54 misses its target, it will then execute a search pattern exactly like a torpedo and attempt to re-acquire the target. It can actually do U-Turns in the game.
Ballistic missiles should be able to be manually targeted at a set of coordinates. This would allow engagement of a naval surface group or a boomer with SLBMs.
Sometimes planes would refuse to change course in order to avoid incoming missiles and continue on a heading with predictable results. Nothing in the attach options helps, only RTB.

As you mentioned torpedoes: I saw a few cases of torpedos missing, with the hit calculations in the log leading to the result "MISS", but then they simply vanish. Shouldn't a torpedo that has missed its target continue and try to reaquire?

Is their status: Engaged Defensive?
If so: what is the Automatic Evasion doctrine set to? If yes, try setting it to no and see if theres any difference?

That should be the case with guided torpedoes, unless they have some kind a safety self destruct feature.

Sometimes Sidewinders etc to it also. On our to-do list.

On our to-do list, but will not be implemented before the Advanced Strike Mission Editor is in place. It will use similar logics for target location (Lat/Long Coordinates, Specified Target, or Target Area).

I think it was probably because of the Automatic Evasion Doctrine as Tomcat84 suggests. The aircraft were engaged at the time and I was trying to beam the incoming missiles. I am actually quite impressed at the way the AI handles missile evasion on its own. Overall, I am very impressed with the game.

Few more things:
Sometimes ships would survive being near the ground zero of a nuclear explosion.
The Aegis combat system can engage sea skimming targets over the horizon. I think the maximum distance for low flying SS-N-19 is about 20Km(11NM) and the AI can pull it off pretty much over the entire missile envelope of the Standard missile. Most SM-2s fail to lock on though. It should be the other way around, since the SPY-1 is lower than the AN/SPS-49 targeting radar.
For a successful anti-ship missile attack there should be a ToT(Time on Target) and waypoint selections for the missiles in a ripple fire mode. Since a submarine can only launch one missile at a time, they just head in a line to the ship and get shot down much easier.

IIRC the one case of this being reported was due to the nuclear weapon having a HE warhead instead of nuclear (DB error). Has there been another case?

Aegis can do OTH engagements only if it uses the SM-6 ERAM in CEC mode. Even when using terminal IR homing (SM-2 Block IIIB) the weapon still needs to have an active datalink up to a few seconds before impact.
SPS-49 is the general air-search radar. SPY-1 performs the precise target tracking and weapon uplinks and the SPG-62s provide terminal illumination.

I forgot that there was a E-2C above the carrier that sees the missile at about 270NM. As soon as the SS-N19 enters the firing envelope of the SM-2ER, the Aegis launches it, even though the SPG-62 won't be able to illuminate it. Most SM-2s miss until about 20-25NM, then it is a slaughter. Still, with this bug three Oscar-Is were able to deplete the missile complement of the entire carrier battle group(One Nimitz, 2 Ticonderoga, 5 Perry) using 72 SS-N-19s. Only 2 got through to the carrier though.

Alright, we already have a "can illuminate at impact?" check for anti-surface mode, we can modify it to include sea-skimmers. EDIT: Included in Build 444.

The distances are correct, using the radar horizon (not visual!) and taking into account the above-surface height of the radars and the flight altitude of the missiles.

It was because I moved two of the ships too close to shore and the AI sees it as ground. When trying to "add" ships in the same spot it tells me it is land, but I can "move" the ship there by mistake. The warhead on an SS-18 Mod 1 works as it is supposed to, don't worry(lol). The rest of the ships went to ship haven, even though they were much farther.

To be clear, by this you're going to allow hand-targeting on-board the platform, of SLBMs? Really?
