Firing Arcs

Just nailed by an incoming vampire that was out of the arc of my CIWS.

Is there a way to view a weapon's firing arc?

I was just typing the same thing. It's hard to figure out how to come at a target and then find out your approach was all wrong. I have had to drag out Jane's a few times to figure it out.

I don't think so, but I know weapon arcs have been mentioned in other threads...I've commented on the issue a couple of times myself. I think they've have heard us and hopefully will add weapon arc visibility in game as part of a future update if practical within programming constraints. I would put the addition of weapon arcs in my top 10 want list.

Vote what up...we are wondering if there is any place to see this or if arcs are supported. Can we just get the question answered?

As stated in the manual, firing arcs are taken into account for engagements up to 5nm in distance. Outside this distance firing arcs are currently not taken into account. Because of this, until now it was not considered a high priority item to have them displayed.

Since now it is being asked to display them, I have added this to the requests poll, so that we can have better visibility of how "hot" an item it is and adjust our dev schedules accordingly.

Thanks Sunburn.

Since most of us have already voted, is there a way to "reset" or "refresh" the poll periodically so that we can reconsider in light of all the more recent additions?

Is it not possible to cast an existing vote on another selection?

I don't see any way to change an existing vote and I've not noticed any items going down in vote count.

If you guys are allowed, a more sophisticated poll site (like SurveyMonkey) would accommodate not only vote alterations, but also vote priority (ie we could rank our preferences)

Whoa... (nearly spilled my cup of tea over the keyboard there) Now then, this may need a rethink then... S-300 variants, Patriot, HQ-9, indeed all PESA and AESA based FCR's all have a very clearly defined arc well outside of 5nm. They cannot fire outside of these arcs once they are conducting engagements. This explains some odd sandbox things I have seen and takes away one advantage from attacking aircraft - split axis attacks...

Indeed, the actual firing arcs for Patriot units would have to look somewhat like this:
EDIT: For very low altitude targets. The slide is from a briefing on Patriot performance in OIF 1.

Could you post a savegame of the oddities you've experienced? Thanks!

Here's the image... Missiles going 180 from each other, but tombstone can only guide in one quadrant.

Any update on this - I was able to reproduce this time and time again, each time until it ran out of missiles or the weasels took out the FCR (or multiple FCR's as previously reported - despite the fact there is only one...)

And speaking of realistic firing arcs, shouldn't most (all?) subs have 360 degree firing arcs on their torps?

Wire guided ones, yes indeed.
