Can anyone explain to me what difference (if any) there is between having a leader and a brigade as one unit compared to the same leader and the same brigade as a stack, that is 2 seperate units in one stack OR one unit that holds both the leader and the brigade.

depends on composition.

In general, its a good idea to meld officers with a brigade.

More specifically if you have 1 commander it makes no real difference. If you have 2 officers present (0r more), whoever is in command gives out 6% per rating (so attack strength is inflated by their attack value - one reason to be underwhelmed at all those union 3-1-1), and the other will enhance their direct command even further some of the bonuses etc such as a 3% uplift for their own attack/defend scores). .

So you can build quite a powerful division this way even early war by stacking in the right commanders, of course the problem is you may want to spread them out to maximise CPs but that is a good dilemna.

If you have one commander, regardless of if he has a brigade integral to his counter, he acts as stack commander (ie that brigade does not gain any secondary bonus).
