Off Topic: Soundtrack to the Apocalypse

Completely as an aside but I was just wondering what people were listening to in the background while playing FPC:RC as a soundtrack to WWIII? Something about watching having watched too many Vietnam and WWII movies that always makes me associate music with conflict. So what do you think the equivalent of
Lili Marleen or
We Gotta Get out of this Place would have been in 1989?
For the record when playing the Soviet side I usually listen to something by the Soviet Masters. Something like
Shostakovitch's 11th Symphony or
the Scythian Suite. The Red Army Choir of course also makes a few appearances.

i dont listening to any music (ingame or other) while thinking
if a song would fit in, it should be from that time period (top 100), and a little sad (so 89'er Lambada dont do it [;)]]) and longing for a better time in the past or about the topic somehow, played by the draftees on their Sony walkmans or discmans...
so i guess "In the army now" by Status Quo from 1986
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObntvRcKMrE
or the orginal version from 1982 by Bolland
or in 1989, Phil Collins "Another day in Paradise" or "In The Air Tonight" came to mind...
so i would check the 1987 to 1989 billboard single charts...

This one's from the early 90's but still reminds me of end of the Cold War:
Scorpions - Wind Of Change

Oh man Nena and 99 Luftballons. Probably the quintessential Cold War angst song, and catchy too.
Spending a bit of time skulking around the internet I threw together two little playlists to set the musical mood of the time. The 80's certainly was a very diverse decade for music. A bit of pop, some rock and a bit of counter culture all mixing together in interesting, and sometimes awful, ways...
Milli Vanilli.
If you are interested attached are links to the
1985 and
1989 playlists.
