A Time to Dance - Soviet

Post by dougb »

Decided to try the Warsaw Pact side in this scenario, which I've played twice as NATO and not done better than a Contested Battle.

Obviously the big thing in his scenario is to get over the river as quickly as possible. I pushed the two tank battalions towards the crossong at Heustreu and the 1 immediatelhy to the south. I pushed the mech infantry to try and effect a crosing at the north Eastern crossing into Bad Neustad.

The American recon units were waiting for me but what surprised me was that the M1 platoons were posted so close to the river. After an initial delay I was able to push across the two northern most of the crossings listed above following the laying of bridges. I found that 1-2 M1 Platoons were in or around Bad Neustadt and again was surprised to see them in such built up terrain.

The fiercest fighting was in and around Bad Neustadt - I had much less difficulty pushing the tanks away from the Heustreu crossing than expected. The Americans suffered their worst losses around Heustreu and in and around the area north west of the middle crossing. The Americans didn't utilize smoke surprisingly so my T80s had little difficulty targetting particularly once they were across. I screwed up my initial artillery deployments and these were not available for the intial crossings.

Final result was a marginal success with a 79 percent rating and congratulations on a performance well done. I suffered 42 percent losses while the US forces suffered 71 percent losses. The remnants of the Armored Cav withdrew from battle due to the heavy casualties suffered.

Here's a shot of the end of battle picture.

I'm a bit surprised the US didn't use smoke against you as well. It usually does against me. [&:]

Then I have to use my "Scenario Designer WINS" button on them...[8|]
