Is there a bug with mouse wheel zoom ?

Hi, not sure whether this was already discussed but
in 2.0 it was possible to zoom/unzoom during turns resolution but it seems that in 2.01 it's not anymore possible (neither with mouse wheel or +/- map buttons). If confirmed, this means that if you start the turn with an incorrect zoom level you will be stuck with it until end turn which is definitely not a good idea. It was very convenient to zoom/unzoom during turns resolution ...

Allen, Check it again. It should be working. In testing the mouse wheel zoom, we noticed that the animation would look corrupted if it zoomed while the combat animation was playing on the map. To avoid this corruption it was coded into the zoom feature to delay the actual zoom until an appropriate pause in the animation routine. This can take in some cases several seconds. To let the player know that his zoom/unzoom command has been queue, the map zoom level in the lower left corner of the map will be shown in red. Once the zoom has completed it will revert back to black.

I just rechecked it on my system and it is working in the turn resolution whether I use the mouse wheel, +/- buttoms or keyboard.

After checking, if it is still not working, let us know. Thanks

Yes in fact it works as you describe, with a (long) delay.

In fact, it's not very convenient to have to wait 5-10 seconds before the zoom/unzoom actually works ... pausing the game barely helps.

I have the impression that in the previous version the zoom/unzoom occured real time during battles.

One more small issue: in my point of wiew, the zoom/unzoom wheel direction are inverted as compared to what is usually done in games, no ? I would have preferred the opposite wheel directions ;-)

dont need to check the box to get mouse zooming. just leave it unchecked and it will work how you expect it to [;)]

Oh ! great , thank you CptHowdy :-)

So the only problem I now have is the zoom delay during turn resolution phase :-)

Direction of the zoom is something we can get an option for down the road once we get the bigger bugs put down.

Um,[&:] .. the option is already there (with 2.01), .. the only issue really, is that, by default .. it's the wrong way. i.e. mouse-wheel forward = Zoom Out, .. which is counterintuitive. [:)]

The option .. 'Mouse wheel rolled forward zooms map out' is selected by default, .. when it should be unselected by default.

Hardly an issue really. [:)]

Cheers
Tom

Yep, I agree with Thomasew: the direction of the wheel is not anymore an issue ...

Regarding my second issue, am I the only one troubled by the long delay between moving the wheel and actual zoom during turn resolution ?

Unfortunately, I don't think that is going to change. The delay is going to have to be there or you will get some really ugly results with the animation.

So maybe there should be an option to deactivate the wheel zoom in user preferences and return to previous system (in 2.0). Because I was really appreciating zooming in/out real time during turn resolution ... :-(

Nukkxx, we can look at an option with the understanding the screen may corrupt if there are animations and counter movement.

After giving it a new try I have to slightly amend my judgement. Thanks to the explanation about the red color indicating that the command has been queued the situation is not that bad. Of course it's not perfect as I would prefer a real time zoom but it's workable like this. So I don't think anymore I'd like to return to the previous system.

Maybe the problem could get worse on a large scenario with many units ? I haven't try yet. Just playing small scenarios and so far it's OK.
