Scenario Creation School

In another lifetime, I was asked to start a Scenario School. We had a section of a website where all we did was post articles on how to create better scenarios. What worked and what didn't work.

Would anyone be interested in doing that for this game?

Good Hunting.

I think I burned myself out doing Steel Panthers design stuff over the years and am still recovering from that so don't think I could contribute a whole lot in the short term. I would certainly love to see something like this get off the ground, especially if it'll accelerate my design learning curve for this game. I have lots of ideas, blocking out time to do its another thing though.

I can do the lion's share at first and you guys can add as you get more experience.

I envision it being more conversational at first, where you guys ask questions and I give you answers. Then as you guys get more experience you can start to teach me to do my own scenarios better.

Here is how we did it before:

Would it help if it had a section of it's own?

Personally I have exactly 0 experience creating scenarios for computer games, despite having played them since the 80's. FPC has me really fired up to make a some scenarios though, partially due to it's very approachable interface. Unhappy memories of fruitlessly meddling about with TOAW editor are now a thing of the past with what you guys have put together.

Making a Scenario School sounds like a great idea to me. Anything that helps the community learn from the (many) mistakes of others can only make the game stronger. I think it will also encourage more users to try their hand at making their own. While the interface is very friendly the sheer potential of the editor is daunting to the newcomer.

Yeah, the fact that I made more mistakes than anyone else on the planet, while learning to make scenarios, should make me uniquely qualified to show you how to bypass some of those.

Good Hunting.

That's exactly what this section is for.

For guys that were always wanting to try to make a scenario, but for whatever reason, never did.

Here you can get walked through the process. Ask questions, get help and hopefully get playtesting done as well.

Good Hunting.
