Welcome to my dump of things I have strewn all over the DW forum, I get posts pop up on topics long forgotten by me about files that are also long forgotten so I will try to put them all here, I am sure there are other files hiding out there so if anyone knows of any other long lost files post the link and I will add them to the list here.

Very Important Notice:
All the zips for download contain the files without a file structure, drop the zip into the right folder and unzip it there, just remember to back up any files they are replacing first, just in case [;)]

NEW

DarkMap

Blank, black Galaxy map and blank nebula images.

Remember to back up any files they are replacing first, just in case [;)]

The zip contains two folders, nebulae and galaxybackdrops.
Extract the darkmap.zip to Distant Worlds\images\environment.

DarkMap

Space Ambient (Darkverse Mix)

I took a fair few space ambient music tracks remixed and refined them over the last few years into one track, total length 42:15.
It is designed to be a non ending track, it's long enough that you will not notice it looping, all the tracks used had the front and ends beatmatched, mixed and joined. The track and DW best are used with headphones. Two choices for use,

Put it in your theme in the music folder (zip your music folder if you have other tracks, then clear the folder, the track is designed to be used solo)

If the music for DW does not work for you, it doesn't for me, I use an external media player, Winamps the best but does tend to use resources quite a bit so I use 1by1, settings of 'Enable gapless' and track repeat, there is an audio marker in there that will let you know when your near the end of the track, I am sure you will know it when you find it [:)]

Space Ambient (Darkverse Mix)

Star Trek themed sound files

Try the new ones, they took a while to get together and edit, the 'click' is much more mellow [:)]

Just out of curiosity, why was the yin/yang symbol used for development? Did you mean to associate development with balance, or was something else on your mind?

With balance. I quite like to carefully build all my colonies to 100+ on development and it takes a fair amount of balance to do it fairly quickly and efficiently for a colony, especially at the lower end colony tech with 30m on a new colony without a ruins bonus, juggling the mineral requirements and luxuries does require balance for a fledgling colony.

Thanks [:)]

Was a large file (1.030kb) due to the memory usage in Shadows for the new GFX engine I have reduced the file size it is now 411kb. No change in DPI or quality, bit bright for myself as you can not see some of the map and the freighters etc get a bit lost on sections but I will add it to the modded mod files [:)]

I wasn't aware that the filesize of the image was a problem. I hadn't encountered any lag yet, even in late game on huge maps. The brightness of the backdrop may be a problem if you use an empire color that is a bright color itself but shouldn't if you use a dark one, like I prefer for myself imho.

It was a few of the AI generated empires that were a little difficult to see, think it may also depend on your monitor settings as well. As far as I can tell images are preloaded, I had quite a bit of lag when using 40+ races in my theme, I reduced the image sizes for the ships and the lag more or less disappeared, so I just tend to reduce the file sizes if I am not going to lose any quality, just to be on the safe side [;)]

The reduced size file has been posted with your details on under the thread where your original file is to be found.

Hi Darkspire, I've created a silent button1.wav and button2.wav file.

I've also reduced the volume level of the grid.wav file which plays on selection of main view screen items such as ships.

I've attached them and think they would make a useful addition to your depository.

For those who wish to try the files:
backup your button1.wav, button2.wav, and grid.wav files within your "\Sounds\Effects" folder within your Distant Worlds installation folder, then
copy the new sound files within the zip file into the "\Sounds\Effects" folder within your Distant Worlds installation folder.

I have added a new section to the broom cupboard, Community Added Files, and put it on there.

Thanks I like the ambient song, if someone could rip some of the songs from Hegemony Legions of Iron, I was quite fond of their music.

Hi Darkspire,

I haven't yet tried your DarkMap, but I assume from what you've said that the nebulas don't show up. Assuming that's correct, can you confirm that the areas where the nebulas are present still produce the normal nebula effects, such as reducing speed and affecting shields? Or have you found a way to avoid those effects too?

Thanks,

Osito

Cosmetic only, so the effects for the nebulas still occur.

Is there any reason I cannot grab the no-sound wav files, rename them to say... message_Alarm.wav and replace it as well with zero sound ?

Same with construction etc.. ?
