Design a better LCS

Okay, I keep hearing gloom and doom about the LCS, although it sounds like its real sin is not so much what it is but that for what it costs it should be more.

So, we've got a 3,000-ton ship with 1 57-mm. cannon, 1 21-missile RAM launcher, and two modular slots are big enough for about a automobile-sized pod with ton-and-a-half of weapons. The standard weapon looks like it will be a pod with a 30-mm. cannon.

Everything is relative. Certainly, the LCS is under-armed compared to other 3,000-ton ships. On the other hand, if I was a patrol boat with a couple of machine guns, I wouldn't want to meet an LCS when its captain was in a bad mood.

If you were going to replace some or all of those four weapon systems with EXISTING weapons, and had to pick weapon systems of roughly the same size, so they will fit on the ship...what would you choose?

I'm wondering what else would fit in those modules. It looks like it's only about two meters tall, which limits what it could do as a VLS. Any ideas?

Maybe keep the two 30 mm. guns, but replace the 57 mm gun with missiles? What would fit? What would make sense?

I wouldn't mind a MLRS's launcher pod at the back. [:D]

Also how about a whole pile of inflatable boats filled with SEALs?

How about the planned F-35 laser system? That would be small and light.

So guys,

How about dumping the LCS onto the map in Command, arm it with the weapons and sensors you think it should have, and post up a screenshot here [8D]

Or even better, a video with your LCS Mod in action [X(]

Littoral Combat Ship; it describes 2 classes of American corvette size ships. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Littoral_combat_ship

From what I've been able to dig up on the ASW mission package, it actually doesn't sound all that bad (though it's still very preliminary). It's also not any better than what any other ASW-capable surface ship in the US Navy can do right now, and doesn't include torpedoes or ASROC. The MH-60R is the only offensive weapon the ship has for ASW.

Harpoons in box launchers would probably be the quickest way to add ASuW capability. Sure they're old and being phased out but they require no heavy duty physical integration into the deign and they would provide enough kick to take on most ships in it's weight class. Replace them with LRASM when they come on line.

For AAW...? I have no idea. Point defense is probably the best they can do with it at this point. Does that mean more RAM or something like it? I'm not seeing any way to squeeze ESSM into it without major modifications.

I wonder if there's any way to utilize those big side loading mission bays for an NQVLS (Not Quite Vertical Launch System)? [:)]

I did cheat a little on that engagement, the Kirov is the 1980s version and the Harpoons were from 1999. [:D]

You can seriously put a land combat vehicle on an lcs and have it fire on enemies too, thats kind of pretty funny to see, one could make some funny scenarios with this game too i see.

LCS ship may make into Conway's edition of worlds worst warships. Part of the problem is there is not much room for expansion and the crew size is small. The Spruance Class when they first came out, were under gunned for their size, two 5 inch guns and an asroc launcher and 2 helicopters. But the vertical launchers made the ship into a powerful weapons system, but they had a lot of room. Maybe putting a tank on is not a bad idea, it may be safer to be in the than inside the ship.

with enough LCS craft one could recreate the whole battle of 73 Easting just south of the Galapagos Islands!
