Hi, I want to do some CW scenarios, so I need some information on how carrier groups were formed in the pre-AEGIS era.

Also, how did the british do this? There is absolutely no info around about how the old Ark Royal or other british large carriers were escorted.

I was wondering the same thing myself and asked in the closed forum. One useful answer that helped me was the tip that CV60 gave me, to look in Cruise Books.

Theres a bunch online here:
http://navysite.de/cruisebooks/

Now this wont always help but for example for the USS Saratoga I found this:
http://navysite.de/cruisebooks/cv60-85/020.htm

which helped me a lot :)

I'm glad to see this thread-I was just about to post the same question!

I'd love to see a list of different kinds of battle group or taskforce compositions for various major nations for representative eras. It would definitely help scenario designers to know what (say) a CVBG looked like in 1955/1965/1975/1985/1990 etc. (including typical aircraft).

I was on the old Ark for a couple of weeks in early 1978, sailing from Devonport to Roosevelt Roads (PR). The group consisted of the Ark herself, guided missile destroyer Devonshire, frigate Antelope, stores ship Lyness and oiler Olmeda.
