Saving a game?

Am I missing something when trying to save a game. It doesn't give me an opportunity to put in a name for the file.
The File drop down menu has both Save and Save As. The former assumes that you want to overwrite the current saved game file. The latter lets you provide a new name.ORIGINAL: UMRS

Something I hadn't thought about.[:(][:@]ORIGINAL: SirWhiskers

Hmm, does this mean it's possible to overwrite the fast play save games that come with the program? If so, any suggestions on how best to avoid doing so?

Making a backup copy of those saved games immediately is my suggestion.

I'm thinking of buying this game, but with such a big game (and not too much time to play it), is it possible to save at any time during a turn?

Of the 60 phases in the game, I think there are automatic saves in 50+ of them. There are also automatic saves for about half of the subphases. Subphases exist for the combat sequences, the declaration of war phase, forming Vichy France, etc. To keep track of all the details in the midst of a combat involves a lot of extra variables. Writing them out to the disk (for a saved game) and restoring them requires a lot of code and runs the risk that some things might get dropped. As I said, most of time a save can be made (and often is done so automatically if you have that flag set to ON). But in the middle of the 28 subphases of a naval combat, making saves is usually not possible. Sorry, but I had to draw the line somewhere.ORIGINAL: sanderz

Yes you can save in most cases.
most?
i'm just thinking that turns will take a very long time so hoping you can save at any point if needed
