It is not usually my nature to be pessimistic, but I must state that I am completely flummoxed by this game, the complexity it entails and most of all after playing Harpoon for so many years, my embarrassing lack of the arcane knowledge so many others of you have while many are even decrying ways to make it even MORE difficult (adding Weather, et al). I can only assume that most of your have a very in depth knowledge and acumen of all things military far beyond my scope, but it is nevertheless rewarding that a game of this nature can bring so many people together. I, however, am embarrassed that after playing the same scenario for over two weeks (Canary Cage) cannot discover why things happen as they do, despite the advantage of many of you even offering insight and spoilers. Thank you for that and I am grateful. As for me, I will instead return to something that I have long embraced, the Harpoon of old and the infinite amount of scenarios I've gleaned off the internet over the years. Although graphically challenged, they offer me a far better opportunity to micromanage, understand my objectives and feel SUPERIOR in my skills (8-D) After all, isn't that what life's about? Finding something you enjoy and allowing it to fulfill your needs? In the end, I beleive it was well worth the money spent to try my skills but I can see I am a very poor armchair admiral, but I certainly wish you all well.

its very close to harpoon, but different in a good way. just run the scenario from the editor and switch sides a lot and you can see what the other side sees. Learn how to work your ships and planes and than you will have knowledge and than you can play the scenarios you like. Its like eating an elephant just eat it one bite at a time and you will finish it.

Editor mode you say? Didn't know that! What! One of my ships is WAY ahead of the others and that is why he is getting pounded! How did he get there? Now I see why he's getting blown up!
Okay, now I can see a new way to add to my knowledge thanks to you Mrfeizhu. Thank you.
And as for my leaving? NEVER MIND! 8-D

As I said in my review, this game allows for a whole range of play styles from macro to micromanagement. Using the mission editor allows fairly simple macro management. I think the main goal of the game is to be a fleet commander so choosing forces, targets and approaches while letting the AI handle individual actions may be the most realistic way to play.

Canary's Cage is not a rookie scenario or, in my opinion, a very good one. Before you go, try something more orthodox like Malvinas 1982 (The Pincer).

I had a lot of easy fun with "Standing Naval Forces Atlantic, 1979".

I think an issue is sometimes Harpoon players coming over and expecting it to be Harpoon. It is just close enough to screw some people up. This isn't Harpoon IV or V. You have to start with a blank slate and not just jump into the scenarios.

Yeah I am writing an AAR on that one now. It was easier than expected (or I just planned it well

)

Excellent point.
