Project Mercury fails every time

Project Mercury fails the first mission step every time during the Manned Orbital Flight. It would help if the sim told you why it failed. But 3 times in a row could be a bug

Hello gifty,
Do you have a savefile so that I can try it right away?

Thanks for the file gifty. The manned orbital mission is failing because the reliability of your Atlas booster is 0%! [:D]
Maybe you wanted to launch a manned suborbital using the Redstone rocket instead?

Another fail Sputnik extended mission. Unlike the other the mission chance indicator remains at the top of the bar. In project Mercury it goes to the bottom. I am trying to recreate.

The booster was reported at 92% reliability as was the sputnik on the screen that shows the mission steps

OK, I've just ran again the savefile for Mercury. The Atlas booster reliability is 0% (see the screenshot below). Are you getting the same values?

how do you load an autosave? The previous post referred to sputnik extended mission

Ah, I see what you mean. OK, let me try that one and I'll get back to you.
Regarding loading of autosaves, just rename to SaveSlot0.xml and load the first slot on the list from inside the game.

Hello gifty,
I've just ran the Sputnik savefile using the debugger and yes, I'm afraid it's just bad luck! The first random number you get between 0% and 100% is very low and makes the step fail.
After the first failure, the flight controllers (what we call the 'saving throw') kick-in. The game computes yet another random number between 0% and 100% and you get 21.4%. Then it computes the chance of succeeding as:
Sum = 92.5% * (81.4 / 100) = 24.705%, where 92.5% is the Spunik's reliability and 81.4 is the average of the relevant skills of the flight controllers involved in the saving throw.
The saving throw would pass if the second random number would be greater than 24.705%, so you're effectively failing by a very narrow margin! I hope this clarifies what's going on behind the scenes.
Notice that we're planning to revamp the mission simulation screen so that there's more transparency and you can understand what's going on.
Cheers,

Cheers a proper debriefing screen would be good.

We'll surely tweak the mission results screen at a later stage, yes. I agree that at the moment it's not displaying all the information.
