sidebar display issues

Hello,
I am having the same problem as butch1171.

Is there any progress on this issue?

I have a Windows Vista OS and a nVidia GT 8500 graphics card. I intend to upgrade to Windows 7 in about a week, but I consider that it is likely the problem will continue.

Apparently, I am not allowed to post image links yet. I don't know what's going on with that.

Before, it was stated that the devs were working on a solution to this, is this true, or those of us with a problem out of luck?

I thought the solution was to set your display font size to normal or small?

You can upload your screenshot to a service like Photobucket, imgur or Dropbox and then share the link here.

There are many issues with fonts, some of them due to limitations in the UI code, some of them due to intractable combinations of user settings, and some of them due to Windows snags. That's why I would like to see what's going on your machine so we can direct you. But indeed, as Rick points out, the most common issue is handled by reverting any changes you've done to scale up fonts, etc.

If that's not an option for you, I'm sorry, I fully understand as I have been there myself. My father is seventy years old and he has vision problems - he's down to 20% vision in both eyes - and I can't count the number of times I have had to help him to get his way, by downscaling fonts and doing things for him, when his font scaling settings have made applications like Office, Outlook or the Tax Office program to file tax returns look like crap and/or become unserviceable (because option buttons bleed out of a form, etc.). So it's not like Panther doesn't care as Microsoft or the Tax Office, but there are things that just can't be done because of limitations in the facilities Microsoft Windows offers. This might sound harsh to you, but my dad, who used to play strategy computer games back in the day, has seen himself reduced to play a version of Tetris that my brothers and I managed to have working on a 800x600 resolution on a 21" display. Obvious as it might sound, we can go through the tax filing applications for him, but we can't play the games for him [:(]

What I can tell you is that I'm ready and willing to "fix the issue" with font scaling, if it were possible to ditch all versions of Windows before Windows 8.

I do have a Win 8 box, but I wonder what do you mean by "medium size font" (I guess you mean slightly larger than the default size).

Well, I fiddled around with the computer and game today.

Though the idea was as attractive as eating a mouthful of sand, I went into the control panel and changed the DPI setting from 120 DPI (which I like) to 96 DPI (which I don't). [I have only the two to choose from, as I dare not try a "custom" setting.] I fired up the game, and found the display is as it should be. The font is smaller than I would like, but is readable. Looking at my desktop made me want to scream, so I changed the default desktop font to segoe 11, and this seemed to help. I should note that I have a HP 22" widescreen monitor. Some of my tray icons are messed up at times, but I think I might be able to use this.

I was thinking of maybe starting a game, when the machine locked up. As this happened earlier in the day, it was not a complete surprise. I hope to do a full install of Win 7 and get the thing back to being somewhat reliable. [8|] I suspect that my graphic card may be failing, but I can't say for sure. The card is a NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT.

In light of my just stated experience, I have two questions:

1. Does everyone have to use the 96 DPI setting, or only those with certain OS's and graphic cards?

2. If it turns out I need a new card, can anyone make a sound recommendation for something better?

Yes if you want to play Cmd Ops you need to run it at 96 dpi.

As for graphic cards, I always consult with my local computer store techy just before I'm going to buy one. I do so because the technology is always changing when it comes to graphic cards and you find in May that an NVidia card is best and by November it's an AMD one.

I have the same problem with the sidebar. Windows 7 GTX 660Ti i7 950 16gig. I've tried all the 'solutions' in this thread and other threads that are sticky'd. Nothing works. I also have Norton Anti Virus that comes free with Comcast Internet, have no clue if that affected the game, though no other significant problems with literally 100s+ games.

Conquest of the Aegean (friend let me try to see if it worked) and Battles form the Bulge Demo.

I would buy them all if they worked properly.

For what it is worth I am running a W7 machine through Comcast internet with the same free Norton AV as well and it does not affect COTA or BFTB on my system, so I do not think that could be the issue with your setup.
