Those are a big help for people trying to get an idea of what the Soviets had and how they deployed them. I used all three of those sources to create the scenarios/campaigns.

There are also orders of battle that can be googled for both NATO and the Warsaw Pact for 1989 and other time frames as well.

Here's a few links for orbats and the like that I used for making the Battlefield Tour:

NATO and Warsaw Pact (links to PDFs on the left sidebar). The NATO oob has a couple of errors in regards to the British but otherwise an awesome resource.

BAOR 1984-85 Author Harvey Black's (Red Effect) blog which details the BAOR in 1985.

Cold Wargamer Excellent site for wargaming the cold war. Has orbats for British, Canadians and Warsaw Pact.

Netherlands Armed Forces ORDER OF BATTLE 1985 Well presented site regarding the Dutch forces.

CSLA (Czechoslovakian Army) Mainly in Czech but has built in translations. Goes into a lot of detail in regards to units and their locations year-to year.

Wikipedia also has a lot good information. If I think of any more, I'll post them here.

Sure, I can see it possibly happening. But in the book, it was on day two and things weren't bad at all. Not sure if they're going to get worse (I assume so), but it was very routine.

Nothing would be routine about firing nuclear weapons on West German soil. They wouldn't think it was funny to use them unless there was the most dire necessity.

I saw your notes on the use of ADAMs in a potential NATO vs WARSAW conflict.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

I tend not to get involved in debates about my Cold War series of novels, as the content is very much my own personal opinion. I am far from perfect....

The US would have used SADMs early on in the war, and the Soviets and the West German Government were well aware of that.

SPOILER...!!! The US army would have used at least 2-6 at some point around the Fulda Gap area, north and south. The distance between the DDR border and Frankfurt was in the region of 100km and from Fulda to Frankfurt probably less than 70km . The Frankfurt area was the financial heart of West Germany and also supported two major airports that would be used to fly in reinforcements. SADMs would have been used to break up the ground along the two key gaps that would be used by the Soviets. SADMs were less half a kiloton in size. If one was exploded near Fulda to destroy the bridge, casualties would be about 20 killed and 400+ injured. That is assuming today's population numbers and none of the locals being evacuated. The fireball radius would have been approximately 60m Air blast 20psi out to 170m, 5psi 360m and 3rd degree burns out to 370m. Retaliation by NATO with chemical weapons across the entire NATO front would have caused significantly more casualties amongst the civilian population. The areas of the likely routes taken by the Soviets would have, in the main, been evacuated. Hope that helps. Over half way through The Blue Effect. Hope you enjoy it.

Atomic munitions are here. They show up within the first week of battle in FPC:RS. How soon they would have been used would have depended on how bad the situation got and how quickly it would have gotten that bad.

By 1987 ADM had been taken out of the realm of the Combat Engineer and entirely turned over to Spec Ops. Tidbit for what it is worth.

Finally found the Communist Chinese forces. This was put out in 1984 so that's very close to our time frame for FPC:RS battles.
