Don't update with game running

Do not update with the game running. I did this, and regretted it. If you update with the game running, you will get an error message and the updater will tell you to close the application and then hit retry. If you do so, the updater will run, but it will not update properly. It will leave you in a state where the updater thinks you have updated, but you have not. The program will state that it is still the previous version when you ask "About the Program" in the help menu, and indeed, it is still the previous version, possibly with some bugs added. However, when you click on "Check for Updates", you will be told that your program is the latest version.
What to do if you are a clever person like me, and manage get yourself into this fix: First, go to the Matrix Games Web site, and find the download of the current version. Download it. Restart your computer; something funny seemed to be still going on; restarting the computer fixed that. Go to your download page, click on the download. It will be a zipped file, and you will see the contents. Click on that, allow an unknown program to make changes to your computer, and you will then really actually have the latest version.
However, it is far better to make sure that the program is not running anything else when you try and update it; when you do updates, to be on the safe side, exit the program, restart it, and check for updates. Doing so will avoid some grief. If you do forget, and the updater tells you to close the application, hit cancel, not retry, exit MWIF, and start over.
