I'm giving this game another look. One thing I'm having trouble with is group movement. I do the contiguous SHIFT-Click thing. Am I right in thinkinking I must move each member unit individually in that turn as long as they stay together? TIA.

Yes, you must move them individually, and they must end up connected at the end of the move iirc. The benefit is you can move several units without the opponent getting an action, and you get +1 to attack for each extra unit when firing, which is useful for ganging up on T-34s and KV's.
