BUILD 4.6.265

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

BUILD 4.6.265

Post by Arjuna »

Hi all,

Just a SITREP re the next patch. I am uploading a new Debug build for our beta testers. It addresses most of the issues raised:
  • Ensure that you can now generate a map cache in the MapMaker
  • Ensure that there is no delay between a preliminary Move task to get to the objective and the subsequent Defend task.
  • Ensure that UpdateData() is called for all GameAnimTasks on loading a saved game. Fixes a problem with task facings not being saved.
  • Keep enemy units spotted for longer.
  • Overhaul APer and AArm fire code. Many tweaks and a few new tricks. Hopefully now those armoured car units won't be so invincible.
  • Ensure units are less likely to draw from SEPs with little or no priority for off board resupply.
  • Ensure Bases are subject to the same rationing as their drawing units.
  • Reduced the probability of losing resupply vehicles.
  • Various mods to the SupplyArrivalEvent to reduce vulnerability of supply columns
  • NEW FEATURE - Added ability to display supply route for units waiting on resupply. This now shows the route from the Base to the drop off point in green and from there to the requesting unit in dark blue. Helps you see where things are going wrong.
  • NEW FEATURE - Added Resupply History to each unit. This shows up in the unit log and in various reports to the user to let them know the status of their resupply.
  • NEW FEATURE - Automatically prevent resupply runs to units whose last run was wiped out or took serious casualties provided the requesting unit is still within 500m of its previous location and the previous run was within 48 hours of timeNow.

Great work Dave. One Question..
Will this ~~> NEW FEATURE - Added ability to display supply route for units waiting on resupply. This now shows the route from the Base to the drop off point in green and from there to the requesting unit in dark blue. Helps you see where things are going wrong
be able to be used before units request supply as well, to show the area that perhaps will need defending/swept? In the same way that before you choose a path, the path finding tool will show you where it will likely be?
Thanks for the hard work on this.

Is there a date on the expected arrival? I don't want to play a scenario when I know there are AC's lurking in the woods until this new build is released.
Have: Socks. Deodorant. £2 gloves. Mince pies.
Want: Line formation banned until I give a specific order to use line formation. Troops that don't take lie-ins until 0800 unless ordered to never rest.

There's always a date but it's like those moveable feasts, very hard to pin down. [;)] My standard response is that we'll release it when its ready. This is a beta build and the first one for this upcoming patch. Expect more before a final release version of the patch.

Does the patch address the issue where orders default to facing north rather than auto? I see you a problem with task facings not being saved. Cheers

It's in the third bullet, skarp. The thing was that facings were stored, but the UI didn't update in a timely manner.

Thanks but I'm still confused. I've never experienced any problem with facings not being saved. Or if I have I haven't noticed. My problem occurs when issuing orders. Virtually very move order, followed by another order results in the facing switching to North rather than auto - that happens immediately and I have to manually select auto. Thanks for you patience.

Just checked this and indeed, all orders I'm giving are defaulting to auto facing, regardless of the order in which I give them. Check out this screenshot I took with build 265

Thanks for looking. It's not happened consistently. I just started a scenario and I've had difficulty making it happen right now which has left me puzzled - I could have sworn it was virtually every order. It did happen once on a simple move, which again is not when it's usually happened. That was on the 3rd unit ordered and it's not happened again although I've issued another dozen or so orders [&:]

Allright, let's see if the beta testers can reproduce this, but I'd say that it's very unlikely it's happening after Dave's fix.

That happens all of the time with the current build, for myself, but it is pretty easily done just by clicking the destination and then "aiming" the facing. That is something I would do myself, even if it didn't show the facing north, just because I want to be certain my orders are understood by the "officers below me" lol.

Oh please ... could you boost the servicing of "on call" arty missions a la RDOA/HTTR/COTA. I really think it is inappropriate that there be a single shell left over for use in Korea. This is going to wreck the US economy. I mean what are wars for if not total consumption?

Thanks.

I do. Just making sure to create an "echo effect" for this request. :)

Each day, I get one day closer to a new PC and getting back to games. Tonight, I am going to visit the Digital Plaza neighborhood which is packed with tech shops. (I am meeting a guy who has lived here for a while and had a few gaming PCs built.) Although, I don't think I will put in a build order until after CNY.

Question about the new supply lines graphic, Dave - will there be a line from SEP to base too? And if not (I assume not, since you didn't mention it)is it reliable to use the pathing tool to discover the supply route from SEP to base - by selecting 'unit' 'avoidance'?
