CA 1 Red Storm Redux

Put in a bunch of time on this today and it's now complete, I hope you enjoy it.

It is the CA 1 Red Storm map and it's used in the 'Hell on Wheels' campaign.
I've also included a version without the hexgrid, it is 'CA 1 Red Storm - no hex'.
If you prefer it, you just have to erase the '-no hex ' bit before you place the map into the game.
Make a backup of your original map before you overwrite.

This is the link to my Dropbox folder, and you'll find the maps in the 'Flashpoint Campaigns' folder.

Here is a screenshot of the game without the hexgrid.

Damn..shame Nick has already done a mod of this map. Still superb work mate.

Could you do some of the single scenario maps? As it's the single scenarios that get replayed alot so your lovely maps will be sued more often!

Very nice, I really like the look of this. I'll be giving this a try over the holiday weekend.

Tried to use it but the game doesn't recognizes the file despite having the same name as the map it replaces and makes my game to crash. I don't know what happens.

Don't know why that would happen, it's a simple png file.
Unless you're using the '-no hex' version and forgot to erase the '-no hex'.

Nope, and I am not new to computing, even did some programming decades ago. Now I loaded it on another computer working on Win 7 and it works perfectly, very odd. BTW, your map is very good!

Hey Jamm,

Fantastic map, .. best one I've seen yet. [:)]

I did find it a little dark, .. but, using paint.net I dropped the input value from 255 down to 175, .. and it was much better. [:)]

I'm using the hex version, .. but the hex grid is out of alignment. Is there an easy way to correct it?

Thanks

Cheers
Tom

Thanks for catching that Thomas, I fixed the alignment and updated the file.
One of my layers had offset some things which I didn't catch, sorry.

Actually the map did start out lighter, but I didn't like it and ended up darkening it twice.
I thought it helped deepen the colours, but I guess it's a subjective thing.

Yesterday I played the first scenario of the NATO campaign on your map, without hexes and found it very nice and easy to read. On my hardware-calibrated professional 2000. Euro 23" monitor (at work) it looked too dark, so I made it lighter with Photoshop. I had also to make the rivers lighter and modify their colour, they looked black, but other than that, your map is superb. We have our monitors calibrated because we work professionally with photographs, I suppose that any user who do not mind about photo colour curves may adjust his monitor instead.

Map looks great. Would you consider posting your PS template file?

Jamm, you map CA1 is first class. I am using it for a H2H scenario I made and for another one that I will be posting soon and the difference is abysmal. Not only that it looks like a sand table, but it is far easier to visualize the orographic features like heights., etc. You should made more maps and commercialize them, perhaps through Matrix, I would gladly buy them! Hi Jamm,

Very nice map. Well done.

Clear, concise game info presentation and easy on the eye.

The one issue I see with it is the elevation colors. Going to brown in only 2 elevations could prove problematic later when there are up to 10 elevations on the same map.

Good Hunting.

I've been working on that, since 10 elevations was mentioned and have spread the shades over more elevations.
I've been doing some work on a SE Asia map with 10 ( and more ) elevations.

We have the 10 elevation colors if that would help you.

Where exactly in SE Asia? Someplace like the A Shau Valley may need 10 elevations. Or the hills either around Khe Sanh or Dak To.

Good Hunting.

Near the border with Laos, can't remember exactly, just wanted to get a feel for the landscape and have a go.
You can email me the colors, or even better a map you're working on and I could send it back redone.
Differentiating the levels is easy enough, but I think fitting in terrain features on a steep slope may be more problematic.
No terrain or specials on this just 10 levels.
