Our game is using different PwHex files since my opponent "reloaded" his PC. Any ideas?

Just the obvious: are you playing the same version and did he patch in the right order? At least one official patch (an early one) changed the pwhex file as far as I can tell from the Notes.

Did he do the comprehensive official patch, then the data changes, then the same beta you're on?

Question above my paygrade. My impression would be yes, but only Michael knows how the pwhex files ties to the EXE and/or the Windows registry.

Yes, the pwhex file is not part of the beta iirc. The pwhex has been modded for some of the extended maps though. You need to marry the pwhex to the scenario you are playing not the exe ;-)

This is true, but I was commenting on these from the first official patch to stock back in the fall of 2009. I think these would be pwhex changes:

Map Changes

1. The terrain for the Japanese islands of “Chichi-jima” and “Haha-jima” changed to
“Forest + Rough”.

2. A missing segment of railway has been added connecting Diamond Harbour with
Calcutta.

3. A number of minor map data inaccuracies (terrain data not matching terrain as painted on the map) have been corrected.

If the opponent here did the comprehensive patch he should have these too. It's most likely a mod difference causing the problem. But the pwhex has been different in different eras in stock games too. I think.

I have done a fair share of work in the PWHEX file for map customization purposes. Keep in mind the bitmap files and pwhex are separate and apply to all games inside an install (unless you are a programmer and get around it). What the map appears to be (the bitmaps) has no bearing on the playability of the map (PWHEX).

Simple answer is to send your PWHEX file to your opponent who had to reinstall and have him upload. Then send him the bitmaps whose pictures are updated.

Easy peasie you are back in business.

True, but #3 at least is clearly not a bitmap issue, but a data issue.
