Netplay issues

Bloodybill and myself are trying to start up a game using netplay and we are having several issues.
We are both updated with the latest version.
As we log in, we still get a pop up indicating "Unable to access seeking opponent database". When logged on to the netplay forum screen, we can't see each other's names as being online although we can see an occasional other person that happens to log on and off. We can chat to each other, but the name that indicates who the message is from is just a string of numbers...no name.
We have both read the help instructions and I creating an online mode game and went thru the start up process but when I get to the netplay screen, there is nothing there indicating I have an online game available.
So we need someone to help walk us thru how to get this going. We have followed the help instructions to no avail and need to know what we are doing wrong here.

Were you using a Slitherine username/password before now? If so you need to ensure these are the identical username (first line) and password (second line) as are in your NetPlayReg.txt file that you can find in the World in Flames folder.

If you mean from a few years ago, I would have no clue on what I used back then. I know we tested Slitherine server play back in the day of testing WitE but that was a long while ago and no, there is no similar netplay reg form in my WitE folder.

I had this exact same problem several days back and once I update my login-username/password in the NetPlayReg.txt to match my Slitherine username/password it resolved. I don't think you can easily change your Slitherine login/username, thus I just edited the MWiF NetPlayReg.txt. Make sure you matching Slitherine login/username from that site and not the Matrix Username which it stores for you as well.

Well my log in ID doesn't change, but the password most likely has. I'll have to experiment to find which password it might be.

If I understand this correctly, the current Matrix login ID and passwords are the same ones used by Slitherine. Is that correct? If so, I tried that and I still can't log on to the Netplay forum properly.

Not only must be the same but they must exactly match in upper or lower case for you to be recognized as both there and for your games to link up.
For example.
On Slitherine your username is Sabre21, but in your save game your username is sabre21. Won't work.

You need to type both names exactly into the Names box as the last step in setting up a game. When the 2nd person logs in they will get a message "do they want to joing your game?" If they are not getting that message, then the names in the Name box do not match up with the user names.
This is all automatic. you do not need to look for a game or anything like that like you may find in other mulitplayer games. Person A selects an Internet game, goes through the standard game setup, execpt two names have to be in the Names box. All person B has to do is just log into the server. Everything is else automatic. I have done this quite a bit now and as long as the names match you should be good.

I am aware of the two name requirement. I finally got logged onto the netplay site, but the password and name needed were not identical to how I log into Matrix. My Matrix log in's use capital first letters while the Netplay would not accept capitals. Thing was driving me nuts trying to figure out what was going on so I just kept using various permutations of my log in's until one of them worked.

Whatever worked for log-in is what needs to be in NetPlayReg.txt and what needs to be in saved game files (appears in two places) and what needs to be used for the names when starting a new game - for both players.
Sorry - don't mean to sound repetitive on this, just want to emphasize that this is what you need for both players for it to work.

So does that mean that both my password and my login name must be the same for Matrix forums and Slitherine for the game to work?

Sorry I don't know if that applies to the discussion forums. Perhaps someone from Matrix and/or Slitherine can clarify if the discussion forums and the NetPlay forum need the same username/passwords?
I
believe the issue with having a prior username/password was if you had been already playing a different game via the internet.

It's ok I found the answer. Capitalization wins the day! D'oh!
