Uncle Mark’s Amazing Scenario Design Tables

These tables will generate basic situations from which one can develop scenarios. You will need one twenty-sided die (d20) and one six-sided die (d6). Enjoy!

First, we need a time and place...

Basic Missions

1-2: Conduct a mine-laying or mine countermeasure operation
3-4: Conduct a reconnaissance operation
5-6: Conduct an extraction, amphibious landing, etc. (i.e., scenario focuses on getting troops, marines, etc. to certain locations so they can complete their mission)
7-8: Defend ground facilities and/or ground-based aircraft from attack
9-10: Defend ships and/or submarines from attack
11-12: Locate and destroy ground facilities and/or ground-based aircraft
13-14: Locate and destroy submarines
15-16: Locate and destroy surface vessels (convoy, battle group, coastal squadron, etc.)
17-18: Move ships and/or submarines from one location to another (through disputed territory, past a blockade, etc.)
19-20: Other (Maintain a no-fly zone, Seize ships carrying contraband, etc.) or Roll Again

Hey, I never said they were perfect. Just amazing.

I just modified the tables slightly to reduce the number of "wait...this can't be right..." results.

Could you get this into a pdf for download? Maybe attach to a post or approach Baloogan? Im sure he would be happy to put it up on his site.

I have created an Excel version of Uncle Mark's Amazing Scenario Design Tables that uses random number generators instead of dice to create scenario schemes. All you have to do is hit F9 with the file open to bang out a new "dice roll".

Now, can somebody tell me how I can upload it here for anybody to use?

EDIT: I think this might be a workaround for file type restrictions... Download the file and rename it to .xls instead of .jpg and then open in Excel.

EDIT 2: Apparently that doesn't work either. So, I will wait to hear from someone more knowledgeable how I can get an Excel file out for the masses.

That is very cool. FYI...I've modified the tables again, slightly, adding a couple of suggestions to the "other" rolls to make them more useful to people.

Here is the code if you would like to modify it or add to it. [:)] ... not my best code but just something I thought would be fun to quickly code up.

I'll host any modifications you might have to this, or if anyone has any modifications. I obviously can't maintain the code, but if you guys have working code I'll host it [:D]

I revised the code slightly--I think--so that it adds the word "other" to the right lines, otherwise some of the results look weird. I think you should be able to just replace the code with what I edited. Thanks for hosting it. I hope people are having fun with it.

Now if only we could get it to do all this stuff automatically in the editor...

I just added a few more tables, not connected with the "main" system, but possibly useful in coming up with more scenario ideas.

(One possibility for scenarios might be if a smaller nation with a large EEZ calls on other countries for help when a nation with a large fishing fleet starts violating their waters. For example, Liberia does not really have the naval might to stop Norway from taking a little more than its quota, but it might ask Spain or South Africa for help, and Norway might get mad and send a frigate to make sure its fishing boats are not being illegally seized. Norway and South Africa would not normally start shooting at each other over something like this...but, you know, things like this have a way of getting out of hand...)

Minor update...I modified some of the secondary tables (not the ones used for the random generator that Baloogan set up) and added one extra table to that group. Enjoy!
