Starting Netplay game

So I gather its simple to start a net play game. Tell me if I got this wrong. One player starts a new game and selects Net play game. The other player logs in to the Net play forum/opponent database. The player that starts the game must add the other players name exactly as he used to log into the net play forum, when asked to do so during the setup and picking the optional rules. The rest happens automatically. Is there anything I am missing?

Not really. Both players names have to exactly match the way they are in their respective NetPlayReg.txt files.

The process however, is as described if these names match?

I think it's more important you name the players correctly for whomever is setting up the game.
Once you both connect to the forum, you will be auto-sucked into the game (one of you will be prompted to comply).

I am sorry. I see my quick reply was clearly confusing. What I meant was I saw nothing incorrect with what you wrote.

"Is there anything I am missing? --> Not really."

So another question relating to Netplay, if you wish to save a game do you both save the game at the same time with the same file name?

file name doesn't have to match.

Ok so its just a matter of saving at the same point and the next time you play you both select restore game and the Program automatically takes you to netplay to connect?

Yes.

The program takes the player names and Next Entry # from the GAM file. It then has you click on Login to the NetPlay forum. After you login, it checks to see if the other player is logged in. If he is, then the program sends him a message about the game you want to restore. If the other player has gone through the same procedure that you just performed, then the player names and Next Entry #s will match, and the program will start the game on the one computer and send a message back to the first computer telling it that everything is good-to-go, so the game starts on the second computer.

There's a lot of stuff done behind the scenes here, but there isn't much to it in terms of mouse clicks, once you know what to do.

Happy to say that we successfully connected last night for my first attempt at net play. I believe the only thing to remember is the names you enter appear to be case sensitive so you have to match them exactly as registered. It was simpler than I thought it would be.

Is it ok to use Auto saves to restart a net play game providing of course they havnt been over written with another game.

You can use Auto-saves but they must be NetPlay Autosaves and the game number and next entry number must match in both players selected save file.
