Are you ever going to get out of Civilwar mode?

Playing some of the great battles of the American Civilwar is nice and all, but, really it does get boring when really all you're changing are the OOB's and tree placement and a few other choice buildings. The combat engine is still the same. Why not use it to its advantage and move into other era's of conflict it would be excellent for like Napoleonic and Ancients. It also could use a facelift in the form of an empire building game on top of the great combat engine. It would be a shame just to remain doing American Civilwar battles over n over n over. Between Mad Minutes 2nd Manassas's (2) and Gettysburg and Antietam, I found that plenty and no longer feel a need to invest in the other ones. Give me something NEW. Another era, another unit to look at and enjoy the wonderful combat engine with. (That's just me you may return to your regular programming now, just thought you ought to know) [:)]

You might want to try the various Napoleonic era mods currently available. See the
Napoleonic mods forum for further details and downloads.

While I don't tire of the Civil War game and mods, they do tend to focus on the "well known" battles. Would be good to see some challenging battles based on some not so well known such as Cedar Mountain, Shenandoah campaign, Corinth, Nashville. That said, and to aaatoysandmore's point, I wouldn't mind seeing seeing the system expanded to the Napoleon campaigns/battles. Would make for some great scenarios (think Waterloo at the church).....

While I am enjoying these SOW titles, Napoleon: Total War is quite a good Napoleonic Game with everything the OP describes. Anyone who has an interest in the period should at least give it a try.

Napoleon total war is nice with the decent mods for it, but it has no realism at all in terms of its command system and also it goes into any of the real historical oobs for its battles - a Napoleons Campaigns type game with SOW type tactical/grand tactical battles would be truly something to behold - or even the Empires in Arms grand map with SOW battles

Scourge is a commander level simulation, it cannot be compared to NTW which is like the 3d conversion of a 2d boardgame (I move my pieces here and here...). Also HW is the 2d boardgame (more complex (and bugged) that NTW) moved to the 3d. When you play HITS with Scourge you're totally like in the battlefield. A Napoleonic conversion would be great (but Napolenic mod of Gunship is very good) but I like also CW period and has been released interesting mods on minor battlefields.

And as we are posting to this thread, Matrix/Slitherine announce development of Waterloo and follow on Napoleonics on the SOW system. This is an excellent decision. I'll be like a kid waiting for Christmas.

There are mods that also cover Pea Ridge and the Red River Campaign and while that is civil war they are lesser known battles and we're put together by the Scourge of War Team, also the team also released an Expansion on the Battle of Brandy Station which is a lesser known battle and the Battle of Pipe Creek which was a hypothetical battle, they've actually done quiet a bit of non big famous battle stuff if you look at all of that.
