supply problem

I am asking for advice.

I play as USA (game started on 1.01 and late spring of '62 we changed to 1.02). It is Aug '62 now.


I can not understand how my opponent manages to have enough supplies to sustain such big armies in the west. Without such knowledge I can't counter his movements properly.

One more thing. Can I do anything to block supplies transported to New Mardid - port is blocked and Island 10 do not have coastal artillery any more.


Any ideas?

Regarding New Madrid: the region south of this place has a structure (city?). It's adjacent therefore it should push supplies?

There is city, yes. So supply will be pushed efficiently enough regardless of the fact there is swamp there?

From what I understand the patch is not compatible with older saves, so you may have issues with continuing your game.

Jefferson City has a depot so he’s built a chain of depots to keep his army fed. Supply will push along the chain from other depots within 2 or 3 regions I think, so he’s sucking supply into Missouri from the south along a chain of supply depots.

Same thing in New Mexico, Valencia does not start the game with a depot, so this confirms he’s been building depot chains to pull supply to his armies. The only way to stop him feeding his armies is to cut his depot chain.

Use cavalry and rangers to recon into the Fog of War regions and try and find out where his depot chain runs and then you’ll be able to figure out where he’s pulling supplies in from. Put their orders to blue/green and click the evade battle button as well, this will allow them to avoid the enemy and get behind his lines. Usually only enemy cavalry specifically set to attack your recon guys will actually get a battle to occur and even that is no guarantee.Then use partisans and go behind his lines and blow up some of his depots with partisan attack cards. If he’s left strong garrisons at his depots you may not be able to cut his links with attack cards and will simply have to face him on the field of battle. The bright side to that is if you win you can attack down his depot chain and use it to feed your armies in return.

New Madrid can pull supplies overland as well as from the river. So if he has a depot south of there you can’t cut supplies. Also from what I understand supply wagons can push supplies into adjacent regions now (new change from past games), so all he really needs to do is keep a supply wagon in a land region adjacent to New Madrid and he can keep his men fed that way. It’s a lot tougher to cut supplies in game now, it can be done but it won’t be your main strategy.

I hadn't heard of that change. I wonder what's the rationale for it?

It was always that way. Units sitting in a region adjacent to depot would always receive supplies from that depot.

About supplies moving overland, it all depends on the movement cost. If supply wagon unit can travel from depot to target region within 15 days, depot can push the same distance as well.

The change is supply wagons, apparently they push supply to adjacent regions now just like depots.

Here's the wiki entry:

Supply Wagons

Supply wagons are special units which act as moving supply stockpiles and thus provide you with limited direct control over supply. They fill up during the supply distribution phase. Supply wagons allow you to keep selected forces supplied, even if they operate far from their supply bases. However, this will only last until they become empty and need to be resupplied themselves from a regular supply source.

Wagons tend to slow down the force they accompany and cannot be used by naval units.

Supply wagons also have the following additional benefits:
## They provide a +10% fire bonus during battles (provided they have some ammo left)
## They protect units from bad weather effects by trading hits for supply

A supply wagon or transport ship is able to supply any land unit with both General Supply and Ammunition if it is in the same or an adjacent region.

Note: If you have too many depleted supply wagons near the front, you can move them back by train to rear areas stockpiles so they get replenished. This is the manual means that players have to control precisely where they want supply, most of the micro-management burden being taken by the automated supply distribution phase.
