TOAW III meeting, MD/PA/VA/WV area

Attention gents of the MD/PA/VA/WV area!

As some of you might be aware the Oberst himself is in town. I hope the response to a possible
meeting of TOAW III folks will be much better this time than back in 2011. I personally would suggest
some place of historic importance, such as Harpers Ferry, Sharpsburg or even Gettysburg, which should
be convenient for most of us from the border areas. So, drop me a line:

Herr Oberst, if we're going to do this before you head home in March, then we need to just pick a date/place and make it happen soon. This weekend's weather forecast looks better than for the following weekend. Yea/nay?

Aye, Sat/Sun seems to be OK; I am still up here in WV, and the dirt roads are still iced up! :/

OK then. I'd suggest either Monocacy, which is convenient for all of us and I haven't been there; It's the 150th anniversary of this small but important engagement; Jubal Early's Raid, or as alternative Antietam, which is also in 'our' area.

Info about Monocacy:
http://www.c-span.org/video/?201200-1/d ... field-tour
http://www.nps.gov/rap/archeology/spotlight_MONO.htm

Info about Antietam:
http://www.c-span.org/video/?307917-113 ... e-antietam
http://www.nps.gov/anti/index.htm

Antietam has the advantage that I know the area quite well, incl. a good place where to eat GERMAN food: (http://www.bavarianinnwv.com/Winter-Lunch-Menu.pdf), e.g. a Schweinebraten for a reasonable price.

If a few of us could make it, that would be smashing; I didn't expect the winter being that harsh up here and never ever again a US-trip during that season. Next year Mar/Apr/May :)

UPDATE: Antietam it is; and for those who might need to bunk in overnight, for whatever reasons, I can accommodate two people up here in WV.

I'd suggest 1200 at the visitor centre? You got quite a trip, approx 2hrs I'd say, if you can avoid the traffic at I-270 as best as possible. Drop me a line or gimme a call; cell phone is recharged and I'd like to show all (who pop up) around the battlefield and point out different phases, attacks, etc.

Sounds good. I'll monitor to see if you settle on another time, else I'll be there by noon.

Don't worry Doc; next time I'll be back during Mar/Apr/May; I never thought this winter resembled your Ardennes '44 and my (modified) Kharkov '43 scenario... the snow, ice... terrible. OK, only enemies up here... tree-rats :)

A very nice day touring Antietam Battlefield with Oberst Klink as our guide. Klink is a big American Civil War buff and he was a great guide. Nice meeting Mr. PzGr who also has a lot of knowledge on the subject.
