Helicopters

I was just playing the Head_On scenario and am now starting to get the hang of ranged fire combined with bottlenecks so not getting blasted too far but the Soviet helos seemed to make a mess of my forward forces. Any tips for reducing losses to them ? I was amazed by the sheer mass of Soviet armour; is this how it would have been ? You destroy 40 tanks and another load turn up .....

There is not a good answer to Soviet helo. The good news, there has been some work ADA for the 2.03 patch. You should have a little more firepower to deal with the Hinds, but they are still potent and can do some real damage.
Yes, you destroy 40 and another load turns up...that's how many feel it would have been.

When facing helo's there are a number of options:
The Matrix option:
When you see a hind you do what the rest of us do.....run
The lazy option
wait for 2.03 patch with its 'fixes' to SAM/AA (not sure exaltly what will be fixed but expecting Vulcan & general AA)
Tactical option
setup a anti air ambush point and pull back to draw the helo's in
and regarding the tanks...only 40 at a time would likely be a slow day [:'(], bear in mind at peak the WP had somewhere in the region of 51,000 tanks

In that particular scenario, lead with your AA assets as you move into your primary defensive positions. Also make sure all the rest of your units with some weapon that has an "AD" capability are in close proximity. You will still loose units, but you'll be able to take the Hinds down without crippling losses.

2.03 fixes a number of issues with the code that were adversely effecting the AD units and really knocking AAA and SPAA units. Testing in 2.03 is back to a nice and dangerous level if air units stray to close to AD units. We also changed AD max fire range display to show the full 360 degree reach of AD units (similar to arty unit display).
