Widows 8 compatability

I can't get the game to work. It loads up fine up to the window which looks like a radio and the radio buttons are "new", "load" etc... I click load and the window that pops up is black with white letters. I select one of the scenarios and the "ok" button appears which I select and then goes to another black window with while letters for adjusting the scenario ie. side selection, weather type selection (historical, etc...) but I don' see any actual menu items to play or ok to start. How do I get this game to work on WIndows 8. I have tried running windows compatibility trouble shooter, but it doesn't work.
