A few questions before taking the plunge...

Hi,

Some friends and I are thinking about getting WiF but we have a few questions:

1. Is there a digital download only version (i.e. something less than $99.99, we already own all the rule books)

2. Can NetPlay host a full contingent of players, i.e. 6 players?

3. When is PBEM expected?

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Best Regards

I took the plunge and have been playing non stop for 4 weeks with solitaire play only. Have had a small session with net play so not sure on your other questions. If you ever had the board version you wont regret getting this version. They are still sorting out a few bug issues but they appear to be on top of them and issuing an update patch on a regular basis.

I will leave your questions for someone more involved in the development. I don't believe there is a cheaper version than the digital download and CD you can currently get.

1. No. There was briefly a discussion of possibly doing that in the future, but that idea seems to have been dropped. There are 3 books that come with the game. 1 is the rule book. Even if you have all the rule books for the pen and paper game, it's nice to have a consolidated book of the Rules as Coded (RAC) since they may vary from the version of the rules you currently play with. The other 2 books are more or less explanations of the mechanics of the interface for each phase and subphase, and are handy.

2. No. Right now it is 1 on 1 only, and there are some problems with it that are still being ironed out.

3. Can't tell you that - there are other bugs that I think take priority.

If your main purpose for getting the game is to be able to play online with your existing group or with random players, then it's probably not going to live up to your expectations yet. But if you enjoy pushing pieces around, trying strategies, testing yourself, then it's more than worth it for solitaire play. It also is perfectly good for hot seat play.

I have to say that the hardback manuals are well worth getting over just purchasing the Digital Download, and to be honest, I would'nt be without them as they are a very handy reference resource ( and you can't beat a mug of cocoa and your players manuals to read whilst you are in bed......heaven!! )

I've got two complete copies of WiF's ( boards game ), but I would recommend to everyone buying the game to get the player manuals too. They are very professionally produced, and as an added bonus they are hard-backed, so they will see out this WiF veteran and then some. [;)]

I see there is a download button making me believe the 'hard' copy is an option.

Yes, you can buy the game without the books that way. You avoid shipping costs and probably custom duties. If you live outside the US, that saves you money (and for some parts of the world, those costs are pretty high).

However, the books are very, very nice...
