I get a runtime error when I try to run the auto-updater. This hasn't happened before. Help?

There's been a couple reports of this. Can you reload update.exe and update.dat from your CD to the World in Flames folder?

I used my CD to reinstall and everything is fine. Funky issue, though.

Did you have to reinstall everything or could you just install the two I mentioned?

I uninstalled the game and then reinstalled it.
Then I applied 1.0.9 patch and the updater now works perfectly.[:)]

***IMPORTANT*** for all that may encounter this.
If you need to re-install, you'll want to first save any Screen Layouts and/or Map Views you built and any saved games you want to continue.

For the 3rd time today I have uninstalled my WIF game, then reinstalled thinking that under 1.10 the issue would not exist. (The last two times I did this using the CD) However, I still can not use the auto updater, it keeps saying
"runtime error!" Program D:\Games\World in Flames\Update.exe Abnormal program termination.
Any ideas?

Sorry, tapped out, I guess trying the Matrix help desk is about all that's left.

Have you tried running it with super cow powers (rclick->start as administrator)?

I get this now as well as of 1.1.1
This is a bug Matrix will have to fix themselves. Has nothing to do with the work of Steve.

Thats the error you get when components of the MSVC libraries are missing or inaccessible. Matrix/Slitherine should check if they depend on "MS Visual C++ 2008", "MS Visual C++ 2008 SP1", or "MS Visual C++ 2010". And provide the correct redistributable package along. I have them all installed and no such problems.

Based on that, and the fact that I am getting this problem for the first time upgrading from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1, whilst others have had this starting at 1.09, that the following theory could be true?
- Matrix has updated their Visual C++ libraries twice over the past weeks.
- First update affected customers who missed two of those libraries. That started at 1.09
- Second update affected cusomers who missed one of those libraries, starting at 1.1.1
I suppose one of the work-arounds is to manually install those libraries yourself until Matrix does something about this. Do you have a link which is used best in this case in case another customer hit by this wants to try it? Albeit that downloading the upgrade manually is probably the better route to take.

Could still be something else.. Installing the redistributables does not hurt though (make sure you get them from Microsoft websites or through Windows update).

FWIW, I'm seeing this error trying to update to v1.1.1. I can update manually, but the auto update doesn't work. I reinstalled Visual C++ Redistributable and rebooted, just to see. Still getting error, so must be with game?

I'm having the same problem now too. I didn't with the last patch.

My auto update went belly up when trying to use it. Forced to manually download. Never happened until this update.

Updater worked fine for me until 1.1.1. Now I also get this error. Manual download of the patch updated to 1.1.1 worked without a problem.
