Units in reserve 22+1?

During the deployment phase to "Fall Rot" I see,

Units to deploy: 24/24
Units in reserve: 22+1

In the case of, "Units to deploy: X/Y" the Y is the total number of units I can deploy and the X is the number of units left that I can deploy. Now for, "Units in reserve: X+Y", which is 22+1 in my case, what does the +Y (or +1 in my case) mean? I have (or thought I have) 23 core units, but apparently only 22 are really core?

Let's look at a different set of values

Units to deploy: 24/24
Units in reserve: 45+5

you have 24 slots on the ground for player units, you have not used any yet.

you have 45 normal core units and an additional 5 SE core unit.

subject to max SE deployment rules for the campaign, you can place the 5 SE and 24 of your 45 other core units for 29 placed units

The +1 is an SE unit. Look closely at the names of your units. When you deploy the SE unit notice the +1 will be subtracted.

From the looks of it you can purchase 2 more core units.
