After I installed the game and the update using the supplied serial number (I downloaded the game from Matrix), when I attempt to play a scenario, after selecting the scenario and attempting to start it, I get an error message saying that there is a problem with the serial number I used and boots me out. The exact same thing happens when I try to play Battleground Napoleonic Wars. What do I need to do to fix this issue?

The problem was solved when I ran the program in Win XP compatibility mode.

I had the same problem on win8.
You should click on game icon (right click mouse), and select "run as admin"
Game will start.
